Trident Taskforce seize guns, drugs and chemicals
Detectives from the Trident Taskforce yesterday arrested two people and seized significant quantities of GBL and 1,4 Butanediol as part of a joint drug trafficking investigation.
The operation, which involved Victoria Police, Australian Federal Police, and Australian Border Force personnel, commenced earlier this month after 600kg of border-controlled substance Gamma Butyrolactone (GBL) was detected hidden inside an incoming sea cargo consignment.
Two further attempted imports of 1,4 Butanediol were also detected by Australian Border Force as part of the investigation and seized.
The chemicals are valued at over $700,000.
Yesterday morning investigators executed a search warrant at Chetwynd Street, North Melbourne and arrested a 28-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman.

Border seizures of synthetic MDMA substitute skyrocket in last two years

Rosa Woods/Stuff
Drug testing agency Know Your Stuff NZ found an “alarming” amount the synthetic cathinone eutylone during testing last summer.
The stimulant takes longer to kick in, meaning a user can take more before they’re aware of the effects, and end up overdosing.
It has contributed to a number of hospitalisations around the country, with users reporting a range of symptoms including shaking, vomiting, paranoia, panic attacks, hallucinations, seizures and anxiety.
With little international research available on the drug, Allison said almost everything they know about it had been told to them by users.
“We've had people describing physical symptoms up to 10 days later, like nausea and insomnia, and occasionally seizures,” she said.
