Group of masked gunmen break into Florida home, kill man and dog, sheriff says

Matthew Nicol, 25, of Merritt Island was killed during the March 3 home-invasion robbery at a home off of East Hall Road.
"In what appears as an attempt to overcome any resistance from persons at the residence, the group dressed in replica attire simulating the appearance of law enforcement," a Thursday afternoon BCSO news release said.
"This included tactical pants and shirts, helmets, communication devices, rifles and replica sheriff and DEA patches," the release said.
As the group entered the home, they were confronted by Nicol’s pet dog — and one of the suspects shot and killed the animal. Nicol was fatally shot afterward.
