Study reveals significant role of ADAMTS1 protein in uveal melanoma
Scientists from the University of Granada and GENYO (Pfizer-University of Granada-Andalusian Government Centre for Genomics and Oncological Research), in a study led by Juan Carlos Rodríguez-Manzaneque, have demonstrated the significant role of a protein called ADAMTS1 in uveal melanoma, one of the rarest and most aggressive cancers that exist, which develops in the eye.
tumors are composed not only of a mass of cells that grow uncontrollably but also of the environment they create during their growth together creating what is known as the tumor microenvironment . Within this environment, there are proteins that remodel it, known as extracellular proteases, which are capable of inhibiting or contributing to tumor growth and metastasis. Scientists will be better able to investigate the genetics of important traits in crops such as maize and sorghum thanks to a new genome resource for green millet developed by a team that included three RIKEN researchers
1. Its value has already been demonstrated by identifying the gene in foxtail millet responsible for seed shattering-the process by which plants release seeds, which is essential for plants to propagate in the wild but is a major cause of yield loss in crops.
The genome resource consists of a reference sequence from green millet line A10.1 together with the sequenced genomes of nearly 600 diverse samples of green millet. Japanese authorities notified the World Health Organization (WHO) of their concern over a new SARS-CoV-2 variant on 9 January after detecting it in airport tests from four travelers from Brazil. Whole-genome sequencing detected the variant.
The detected variant came from the B.1.1.248 lineage. Its mutations include the N501Y mutation, which it has in common with the variants reported by South Africa and the UK, and the E484K. This is the second variant detected from Brazil containing the E484K mutation. ....
