Texas GOP chairman Allen West has denied the Texas GOP's slogan, "We are the storm," has any connection to conspiracy theory movement QAnon.Gustavo Huerta, Houston Chronicle / Staff photographer
The Texas GOP drew attention over the weekend for using its slogan, "We are the storm," on publicity materials and its Twitter account, which critics say links the party to QAnon.
"The Storm" is a phrase widely visible within the QAnon movement, a web of baseless conspiracy theories that claim a group of Satan-worshipping pedophiles run the world and were plotting against former President Donald Trump. Origins of the movement are linked to an anonymous 4chan account calling itself "Q Clearance Patriot," who claimed "The Storm" was when Trump would expose those plotting against him. Many believed Inauguration Day would start "The Storm."

New vaccines are on the horizon — but is it too late to blunt the pandemic’s winter surge? Might Houston fare better than the rest of Texas? And why could a traditional-method vaccine be better for kids?
To answer these questions, we once again check in with vaccine researcher Peter Hotez, one of the country’s best explainers of COVID-19 science. He’s a professor and dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, and he co-directs the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development, where his lab team is developing COVID-19 vaccines.
