The state did not have to prove that aaron hernandez or anyone for that matter pulled the trigger. they didn t have to pinpoint who did that. all thud to basically proof, the prosecution, is that aaron hernandez participated in what he knew was going to be 9 murder of odin lloyd. this jury made that clear that they thought he in fact participated. usually in a case like this where it s a very long case lengthy trial, nine weeks and seven days of testimony, there s a lot of friction in the jury room. this jury came out as one. they didn t talk specifically about the deliberation but they said what they could not agree on was the premeditation aspect of the murder one standard. what they said they all could agree to was the fact the nature and manner of the kip, that odin lloyd was shot five times proved the standard of great extreme cruelty, bakley and that s how they got to this ....
Should get a new trial. cnn s deborah farric has more on this gut wrenching case. reporter: with tales of brutal satanic rituals the murders of two boys have haunted west memphis for 17 years. we the jury find damian echols guilty of first-degree murder. now the case could turn on a hair found at the crime scene. what is it that you hope that you get from the arkansas supreme court? what i want is a new trial. i want to go back in front of a jury and in front of the state of arkansas and present all of the evidence that we have now and show where the mistakes were made during the original trial. i want to be vindicated in front of everyone. reporter: we meet damian echols at the supermax prison about an hour s drive south of little rock, arkansas. he s almost 36 and has spent half his life on death row. ....
i don t really want to get involved with the other two co-defendants. i think we want to focus on this case and the successful conclusion of it. [ inaudible ] i think the judge conducted a fair and orderly proceeding. i see victims and witnesses become emotional on the stand throughout trials and i think it s appropriate if it s natural and not done in a way that could detract from her testimony, it would be appropriate for her to express her emotions when she testifies. a lot of evidence and not ....
Going forward that well obviously any evidence that was excluded is not going to be the subject of an appeal. the appellate process takes care of itself. automatic appeal first-degree murder that s for another day. we feel we tried a good case and presented the evidence in an appropriate and proper fashion. do you think aaron hernandez gets it that he got it today during when the verdict was read? i don t know. i think when you re taken away and they say life in prison without parole someone s got to respond to that. there s got to be some response with you i don t know if he got it. s. [ inaudible ] suv fox county has a case pending. they re dealing with it. certainly if there s any information we have that can be of assistance, we will work with ....

[ inaudible ] you can. mr. macaulay? i don t have much to say substantively about the case but i did want to thank the jury for the verdict. it s obviously been a long trial. it was quite i m sure an inconvenience for them in their lives to commit this kind of time. we felt like we had their attention every day, both of prosecution and the defense. they fairly considered the evidence and returned a verdict that s spotted by that evidence. so we re very grateful for their commitment and odin lloyd s family, these ladies here who you saw sitting in the front row every day, they were committed to seeing this thing through, and for trusting in the process, and trusting that the jury would deliver a fair verdict. ....
