Bronx: In my years as a visiting nurse, I met many young women in varying stages of pregnancy and motherhood. I had a 14-year-old who delivered her baby on the bathroom floor of her mother’s apartment because she was afraid to be put out of the house if her mom found out she was pregnant. I met girls and women who had no idea — in the 20th century! — how their bodies worked.

Brooklyn: Re “Fare game” (editorial, Nov. 21): Predictable fare hikes are not the only option — they are the worst option. Public transit in New York City is an essential public service that allows riders to get to and from work, school and home.

West Caldwell, N.J.: I’ve lived in the greater New York City area for 40 years and up until last March, served the city as a yellow cab driver full-time for the last eight of them. I’ve been watching this year’s mayoral race closely as nearly every quality of life issue has gone downhill. I was hoping that “Ed, Dave, Rudy, Mike, Bill and Me” (op-ed, Feb. 28) would give me better insight into many of the frontrunners vying to replace Big Bird next year. Unfortunately, this piece left me disappointed.
