Manhattan: As all of society collapses, let’s look on the bright side: Many eternal debates will now be settled, once and for all, so we can all live in harmony! For example, the entire world says Elon Musk is a genius. I think he’s an astounding moron. We will know within six months if he has made Twitter super-profitable and a great place for all customers!
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.: Voicer Eva Maciejewski’s letter representing the Foundation for Biomedical Research (FBR) is typical of the rhetoric issued by organizations that lobby for animal experimentation. Responding to my article on Neuralink’s unjustified use of monkeys to develop a brain-computer interface (“Elon Musk, monkeys and our human responsibility,” op-ed, March 14), it ignores the vast volume of work affirming the limitations of animals in achieving human cures.
Plainview, L.I.: $73 million for nine of the 26 victims of the horrific massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School works out to $8 million per person. Of course, Congress wouldn’t have given those families a plug nickel for those lives, proved by its 3,354 days of not passing any consequential, life-saving gun control laws since Dec. 14, 2012.
West Caldwell, N.J.: I’ve lived in the greater New York City area for 40 years and up until last March, served the city as a yellow cab driver full-time for the last eight of them. I’ve been watching this year’s mayoral race closely as nearly every quality of life issue has gone downhill. I was hoping that “Ed, Dave, Rudy, Mike, Bill and Me” (op-ed, Feb. 28) would give me better insight into many of the frontrunners vying to replace Big Bird next year. Unfortunately, this piece left me disappointed.
Rensselaer, N.Y.: In response to your article regarding trainer Eric Guillot (”Racist name gets trainer banned, horse renamed to ‘Respect for All,’ ” Jan. 9): I completely agree that there is no place for racism anywhere or at any time. I also believe that there is absolutely no place where animal cruelty is acceptable.
