November 12, 1986   INTRODUCTION For four days early in November more than 2,000 of the nation's leading institutional communicators--members of the Public Relations society of America--met in Washington for their 39th National Conference.

While the Philadelphia Phillies and the Houston Astros are competing in the 2022 World Series, it becomes the first time since 1950 that there will not be a single American-born Black player on either team’s 26-person roster. “I don’t think that’s something that baseball should really be proud of.

“What hurts is that I don’t know how much hope that it gives some of the young African-American kids,” the Houston Astros manager told The Associated Press.

Phillies-Astros World Series will be the first in 72 years without any U.S.-born Black Americans on the field.

Only once since Jackie Robinson broke the Major League Baseball color barrier in 1947 has there been a World Series without at least one Black player. It happened in 1950 when the New York Yankees played the Phillies.
