New Oregon FBI head says focus is on violence, not ideology


SALEM — The FBI’s new special agent in charge for Oregon stressed the bureau will continue targeting violent extremists, whether they’re white supremacists or Antifa.
Kieran Ramsey said his agency will keep its focus on “the crime and not the ideology” in a press conference on Wednesday, March 10. It’s a phrase also favored by his predecessor, Renn Cannon, whom Ramsey replaced in January.
“It doesn’t matter about the ideology in the end,” Ramsey said. “Our concern is those specific threats of violent criminal activity.”
Ramsey was introducing himself to media members from rural Oregon.
On Monday, he met with Portland-area journalists and called gun violence in the state’s largest metropolitan area a public health crisis. ....

Georgia House Speaker David Ralston criticizes state aid provision in federal COVID-19 relief package


ATLANTA - Georgia House Speaker David Ralston is continuing to lobby the federal government not to attach strings on the $350 billion in the American Rescue Plan earmarked for state and local governments.
In a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen dated Thursday, Ralston, R-Blue Ridge, cited language in the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill Congress passed this week that prohibits states from using any of the aid money to “either directly or indirectly” offset reductions in net tax revenue.
Thursday’s letter followed similarly worded missives the speaker sent on Wednesday to President Joe Biden and members of Georgia’s congressional delegation. ....

For a number of years, our city has made attracting new businesses to our community a priority. This effort is a top-level goal of the city’s Strategic Plan, and one that is carried out by the city’s economic development partners.
