Very good congratulations to her and her new husband. Lets bring you up to speed on the markets this morning. Futures right now pointing to a slightly positive open. But this does of course come on the back of strong gains. 2 gains and over 3 gains for the nasdaq. Only just, though, in the final trading it looks like we will hold on to gains for may. The dow called higher by 3. Nasdaq as well. 1. 875, near the top of the range in recent week which is has been 1. 7 to 1. 9. 1. 4 on tenhe tenyear. The dow is up on its best streak since five straight winning months ending in june 2014. Six out of ten s p sectors positive led by tech which is up by more than 5 . Bullish themes for the year. Themes that big players are betting on, as though theyre done deals. Buy, buy, buy. This kind of thinking isnt unusual at the beginning of the year, as we see what resonates and what doesnt. So without further ado, let me tell you the ten themes im seeing already. First the eight positives and then the two negatives. 2014 is looking like another year where aerospace is ascendant. While we know from alcoa, who produces up to 3 million fasteners per plane, and General Electric, the central thesis is that the commerce are healthy. Those customers ranging from the airlines to an exceptional crop of middle east orders are forcing the bears to rethink their negativity. Finish selling. Dow one point down 95 points before rebounding to close down 41 was up just a few minutes left. S p dropped. 49 , again, much worse, nasdaq was ugly at one point but sunk only 1. 08 . I count as possible not probable. Because apple didnt shoot the lights out after the close, which will cause some serious hand wringing at the opening bell because it is a bell weather. Yep, apple didnt sell enough iphones, didnt make enough off each one. And even though the number that was reported was terrific, the guidance was distinctly subpar and most surely weigh on the market tomorrow. We can evaluate this market on case by case, stock by stock, with more to follow tomorrow stemming from that apple report. We have to get deep into the weeds to figure out whats ailing this darn thing. Why weve been engulfed in the huge wave of pessimism and confusion in the last three weeks of 2014.
