Coach Tyler Ulis? UK great to spend summer with Kentucky Wildcats

After enduring one of the worst seasons in program history, Kentucky’s John Calipari has made sure it won’t happen again while he’s in charge.
The biggest change Calipari made this offseason was a dramatic shakeup of the coaching staff, which saw Tony Barbee and Joel Justus exit stage left, paving way for the additions of Orlando Antigua and Chin Coleman to form what’s easily now one of, if not the top overall staff in America.

Apparently, Calipari is adding another new coach of sorts in the form of Tyler Ulis.
According to current 2022 commit Skyy Clark (via KSR’s Jack Pilgrim), Ulis will be spending this summer with the Cats. Calipari said earlier today that Ulis is spending time with the team as he rehabs an injury.

Kentucky adds Antigua, Coleman to coaching staff

Kentucky adds Antigua, Coleman to coaching staff
May 6, 2021 GMT
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky has added former Illinois assistants Orlando Antigua and Ron Coleman to the coaching staff.
Antigua, who served five years with the Wildcats before becoming head coach at South Florida for 2½ seasons, will be an associate coach while Coleman will be an assistant. In his previous stint at Kentucky, Antigua was praised for his skills as a recruiter and developer of talent along with forging relationships with players on and off the court.
Antigua spent the past four seasons as an Illinois assistant with Coleman as they helped guide the Illini to consecutive 20-win seasons and a No. 1 NCAA Tournament seeding this spring. The coaches are credited with developing Illini guard Ayo Dosunmu and 7-footer Kofi Cockburn into All-American selections.

UK Wildcats: John Calipari, Orlando Antigua and Chin Coleman release statements

“I am really excited to have Orlando back,” Kentucky head coach John Calipari said in a press release. “I think everyone knows what we were able to do with Orlando as a part of our staff going to the Sweet 16 in our final season at Memphis and making three Final Fours with a national title at Kentucky in his five seasons. But aside from our team success, he brings an uplifting spirit and a work ethic that helps create relationships that are so needed in college basketball within your own team and on the recruiting trail. All of that starts within our staff, and I am excited that he wanted to be back here with us to get our program back to where we know it needs to be.”

A pair of assistant coaches most recently at Illinois are joining John Calipari's staff at Kentucky.
Calipari announced Thursday the addition of Orlando Antigua, who previously served on his staff, as associate head coach and Ronald "Chin" Coleman as assistant coach.
The two were credited withhelping to develop Ayo Dosunmu, a consensus first-team All-American this past season, and Kofi Cockburn, a second-team All-American, at Illinois. The Illini finished the season at 24-7 and were a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Orlando Antigua, "Chin" Coleman leave Illinois for Kentucky

Steve Mitchell/USA TODAY Sports
Orlando Antigua will return to Kentucky, and he isn’t the only assistant coming to the Bluegrass. After spending the last four years with Illinois as their top assistant, Antigua is headed back to Lexington, KY to serve as an assistant coach under John Calipari. He started with Calipari back in 2008 with Memphis and followed him to Kentucky where he remained on the staff from 2009-2014.
Antigua has had time to coach the Dominican Republic national team since then (2013-15) as well as coach the University of South Florida as the head man in charge from 2014-2017. Considered one of the best assistants and recruiters in the nation, his services come with a steep price.

Monday Quickies: Coaching Watch Edition

Late last week a report surfaced that Orlando Antigua was indeed leaving Illinois to return to Kentucky’s coaching staff under head coach John Calipari. While the university has yet to comment or confirm this decision, Big Blue Nation should expect to hear something in the coming days.
Along with Antigua, Chin Coleman could also be leaving Illinois and tag along to Kentucky. Five days ago, the Chicago Tribune reported the duo could fill the shoes of former Kentucky assistants Tony Barbee and Joel Justus.
The ability to land top-tier recruits and develop them has somewhat lacked consistency over the last few years in Lexington. Antigua and Coleman would provide an immediate spark in that department. Their decision to leave Illinois would be a blow to the program but an incredible boost for the Wildcats and Calipari.
