When I was a graduate student at UF, I was hit by a car while cycling across University and 17th Street. This occurred after the first football home game of the 1993 season. I had just moved from New York City a month earlier. It was not the welcome to Gainesville I was hoping for. Just before the accident, I was feeling very uneasy about the speed and frantic action of hundreds of people trying to get out of the university area once the game had ended. Cars were moving quickly. Large numbers of folks were celebrating. Lots of noise was to be heard.
