Vladar posts another shutout as Flames' goalies continue dream-like season

En route to their early perch atop the Western Conference standings, the Flames have now posted a remarkable seven shutouts in their first 19 games. It’s the first time a team has done that since — wait for it — the NHL started allowing offensive forward passes in 1929.

Postponed Canucks-Flames game no solace for struggling Markstrom

The Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks – two teams with identical records and faint playoff hopes – will be forced to wait to face off after two Canucks players and a Vancouver coaching staff member entered the National Hockey League’s COVID-19 protocol Wednesday.
Several hours after both the Flames and Canucks had their morning skates, word came out from the league on Wednesday evening – less than two hours before puck drop in Vancouver – that their matchup would be postponed.
The NHL will have an update on Thursday. On Tuesday, Canucks forward Adam Gaudette was pulled off the ice during practice after testing positive and added to the protocol list.

CALGARY - Can the arrival of a marquee goalie and a redistribution of the goalscoring load finally produce an extended playoff run for the Calgary Flames?
The Flames have exited the first round of playoffs in mortifying fashion three of the last four years, and missed the post-season altogether in 2018.
"It's time for people to look at us as a serious contender throughout the league," Flames winger Matthew Tkachuk said.

Calgary Flames restructure goalie coaching staff, bring Labarbera on board

CALGARY --
The Calgary Flames have hired Jason Labarbera as the NHL club's new goaltending coach and promoted Jordan Sigalet to the new role of director of goaltending.
"The goal and mission of this change is to provide us with the best process to identify, draft, develop, procure and coach goalies for the Calgary Flames," Flames general manager Brad Treliving said Wednesday in a statement.
"We believe this structure and process will provide us with the best and deepest goaltending expertise throughout all parts of the organization."
Sigalet of New Westminster, B.C., will start his seventh season in the Flames' organization. His first three were coaching goalies with the club's American Hockey League affiliate.

Calgary Flames launch goaltending department, add Jason Labarbera as full-time coach

Following an emerging trend in the National Hockey League, the Calgary Flames announced the creation of a goaltending department on Wednesday.
As part of the new structure, current Flames goaltending coach Jordan Sigalet will oversee the goaltending development of all the organization’s goaltenders, including those in the minor leagues and prospects. Sigalet, a former Boston Bruins prospect, had spent the previous five seasons as the Flames’ goalie coach.
Jason Labarbera, who is currently in the Edmonton bubble as Team Canada’s goalie coach at the World Juniors, will become the Flames’ full-time goalie coach.
Labarbera, who suited up for 187 NHL games with the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes, Edmonton Oilers, and Anaheim Ducks during a 17-year pro career, had spent the past four seasons as the goalie coach of the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League, which shares the same ownership group as the Flames.

The Calgary Flames, perhaps taking a page from the Florida Panthers book, have created a new goaltending department in the front office, which will be led by Jordan Sigalet as Director of Goaltending. General manager Brad Treliving explained just what the department’s role in the organization will be:
"The goal and mission of this change is to provide us with the best process to identify, draft, develop, procure and coach goalies for the Calgary Flames. We believe this structure and process will provide us with the best and deepest goaltending expertise throughout all parts of the organization."
