not in the room for some of the more bombastic meetings that preceded that call, he was told directly by people like gordon sondland what their intentions were when they were having discussions with ukrainians, especially when it came to insisting they commit to investigation before giving them a face-to-face meeting with president trump? >> the intention is now coming into focus what the real question is here. caitlin, as we pointed out at the top of the show, president trump banked part of his defense on what he called a word-for-word exact perfect transcript of the call. now that it turns out that it's not true, add to that in this isn't second-hand information as karin is pointing out. what is your sense you are getting from the white house and how this adds to his problems here? >> well, so far they haven't explained this contradiction at all. and we should note that we never expected there to be a perfect transcript as it noted when the transcript came out it wasn't going to be verbatim.

direct contact with guiliani, kind of painting a picture for us there that she as a state department as a career foreign service officer did not want to be involved in anything that rudy guiliani had his hands on. kate. >> her description of that would be really interesting to hear and her thoughts on that kind of relationship and role of guiliani going forward as he becomes more and more of a focus in all of this. kylie, thank you so much, great work. joining me now cnn white house analyst kate collins and karin, we are going to wait to hear more about what these two witnesses might say. there is so much to be said about colonel vindman. he said in no uncertain terms the transcript of the call is not a complete transcript. how significant is this from what you are hearing? >> well, it's significant that there are things missing from the transcript. all in all that did not seem to be the biggest and dramatic take way away to people in that interview. people think the transcript and

it's the president saying a dozen time it's exact and the white house went to great lengths to tell reporters that those dot dot dot in the transcripts weren't words left or omitted the president or the other president trails off in conversation or briefly paused. so that's the question we are waiting on now to explain that contradiction. of course, the bicker picture here is going to be the merits as karin pointed out, those words left out, don't fundamentally mischange our understanding of exactly what was said on the call, but, of course, now you are seeing the president on twitter urging republicans not to just dchld on the process here, this impeachment process, the democrats have been following so far. he wants them to defend him on the merits. those merits haven't changed now. they are only essentially getting more damming for the white house. the question going forward is going to be for republicans and what it is they say about the president. and and karin, one of the things coming out today is we hear from kylie atwood, congress is now

is like a grand jury. you don't have a ken starr report here. this is the initial process of investigating. let's talk about all of this. shan wu and karin. you have a great piece in the post and your reporting is that democrats may be feeling pressure to move this thing into the public light and public hearings a little bit sooner. if that's the case, is the republican messaging that this is all just totally unfair and secret working? >> i think when you saw that episode yesterday outside the scif where the republicans were going in, there was constern augs. some democrats starting to feel pressure about that. and it is making people think, at least, about the next stage of this because there's so many gop calls for the public stage. democrats are thinking about, how do we orchestrate this? how do we make it work? there haven't been any final decisions taken about who is going to run the show, which witnesses they'll bring in, but you're starting to hear a lot of the democrats on these three

these are things that could move markets, could move things on capitol hill, but you cover them, you fact check them and move back. >> i guess that's my point, move on. >> you move back to the four or five things that you have deemed are important and you don't let him control the agenda. you still cover it as it is their responsibility to do. you fact check it, as we need to do with this president, and then you forget about it. >> i do think and we're going to move on, there is a technique for the media if they are conscious of it to report it. but when it is so absurd go, he says the world is flat. we're not going to get experts on now, if some way we find out he is right we'll come back to it. let's move on. fear factor. republicans have used fear to win elections. it may be time for democrats to tune in the fear factor. karin, we talked about it in an earlier section. i see potential nuclear war, of climate change. most importantly, you will have 30% of judges changed over the
