Kate Winslet on stigma around homosexuality in Hollywood: Actors are terrified it will affect their casting
Titanic star Kate Winslet recently got candid about the stigma around coming out of the closet in Hollywood. Speaking to the Sunday Times Culture, the 45-year-old Titanic actress opened up about being aware of “at least four actors” who weren’t willing to make their sexuality public due to being “terrified” that it will “stand in the way” in an industry that harbours “judgment, discrimination and homophobia.” “I cannot tell you the number of young actors I know – some well known, some starting out – who are terrified their sexuality will be revealed and that it will stand in the way of their being cast in straight roles,” she explained.

Kate Winslet 'would have been disgusted if she came from wealth or royalty'

Her maternal grandparents were actors and her father, between labouring jobs to support the family, was a performer too.
She enrolled at Redroofs Theatre School but had to leave after she sat her GCSEs because her parents couldn’t afford the fees.
Despite attending a private acting school, Winslet maintained that her parents always “frowned upon wealth”.

Kate Winslet recently got real about shooting intimate scenes on-set. The 45-year-old Titanic actress spoke out in a chat on How I Found My Voice podcast and revealed that she would have felt a lot more comfortable filming sex scenes if there were intimacy coordinators on set. “I definitely wish I had them in the past, I definitely do. I just could have done with that friend really. Just having a friend to say, ‘Can you ask him just to not put his hands there?’ So it’s not you having to say, which can be pretty awkward,” she admitted.
