Letter Supposedly Written By Young Girl on the Titanic Found on Canadian Beach

A mysterious letter in a bottle was allegedly written by a 13-year-old girl who was on board the Titanic during its tragic voyage in 1912. The letter was found in a sealed bottle buried on a beach in Hopewell Rocks along the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick, Canada.
The letter was dated April 13, 1912 – the day before the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank – and was written in French by a 13-year-old girl named Mathilde Lefebvre. Translated to English, it read, “I am throwing this bottle into the sea in the middle of the Atlantic. We are due to arrive in New York in a few days. If anyone finds it, tell the Lefebvre family in Liévin.”

Rare Titanic Artifacts Up for Auction

The Belfast-built H.M.S. Titanic was thought to be unsinkable after it set sail from Cobh, Co. Cork, on its fated maiden voyage. Of the roughly 2,220 people aboard the Titanic, around 164 were Irish, only 54 of whom were found amongst the ship’s 700-some survivors. Its wreckage lay undiscovered until September 2, 1985, and now on the 30th anniversary of the discovery several Titanic artifacts will go on auction, and are likely to sell for hefty sums. The items come from Abraham Lincoln Salmon, who was one of the 12 survivors on the infamous Lifeboat No. 1, nicknamed the “money boat” due to unsubstantiated allegations that these survivors bribed the crewmen to paddle away from danger while others struggled to survive.

Kate Winslet addresses the ‘adrenaline’ of auditioning after ‘Titanic’
Entertainment
Thu, Apr 15, 2021
Renowned actor Kate Winslet recently addressed her Titanic casting as well as the melancholic adrenaline that followed.
The actor got candid about her acting experience during an interview with
Backstage and was quoted saying, "I miss that—the adrenaline of wanting something that much when you go into a room for something.”
“That’s a really important part of a young actor’s life, because you learn your adrenaline levels, you learn how to calm your whole nervous system down."
"And the process helps enormously in terms of becoming unselfconscious—being able to walk onto a film set and not have that devil on your shoulder going, ‘They think you’re shit. You shouldn’t be here.’ It takes a lot to get through those feelings and move beyond them, and the audition process is helpful in that."

BOSTON: A postcard written by the Titanic's senior radio operator just weeks before the ocean liner sank in the North Atlantic in 1912 has been put up for auction. The card, with a glossy image of the ill-fated ship on the front, was written by Jack Phillips to his sister, Elsie Phillips, in March 1912 while awaiting the ship's first sea trials, according to RR Auction in Boston.

Friends With Benefits: Kaylee Jukich-Fish at Luxor
By Kiko Miyasato
April 12, 2021
Have you ever gone after your dream job and actually got it? Well, Kaylee Jukich-Fish did. When the Montana native moved to Las Vegas in 2019 to attend UNLV to study criminal justice and couples and family therapy, she needed a job.
“Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always been fascinated with Titanic,” she says. “I used to leave sticky notes around the house for my dad to find with questions on them about Titanic. And it just kind of escalated from there.” Yes, her interest in the ill-fated tale became a lifelong passion, and there was only one place she wanted to work when she moved to town—at

The famous “Iceberg’ that sunk the Titanic back in the early 1900s made an appearance on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” with Colin Jost.
Not only the iceberg character is gaining some buzz on social media, but also the actor that played him. Bowen Yang is getting world-renown for his “amazing yet hilarious” performance.
During the skit, the “Iceberg” wanted to discuss his latest album, but Jost wanted to discuss why he was on the same path as the Titanic. Yang as “Iceberg” kept blaming the ocean for the disaster that killed 1,500 people.

For the past few weeks, San Francisco Bay has been packed with huge cargo ships. There were 15 of them anchored south of the Bay Bridge at midweek. There is so much ship traffic that there is not enough room inside the bay for them all to anchor safely. Nine more big ships were waiting in the Pacific, steaming up and down 20 to 30 miles offshore between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay.

Those tacky '90s movie theater carpets expertly hid our filth

Card image cap

Photo: Ethan Miller (Getty Images)
American cultural aesthetics have adopted some particularly strange fads throughout the decades, but few strike that particular chord of nostalgic resonance as well as late-’90s movie theater carpets—those thousands upon thousands of square feet of garish, neon-colored cosmic bodies, squiggly lines, and splatter paint set against dingy black backdrops. As it turns out, that strain of floor fashion can be largely traced back to Pattern Patient Zero: AMC Theaters’ “The Odyssey.”

What was The Odyssey, and what was its purpose? As Foster Kamer, writing for A24's blog, recently explained, “If those carpets could talk, they’d tell you a story about late-’90s economics, showbiz, multiplexes, and an era of world-building that changed moviegoing as we know it—maybe more than any other.”

25 Facts About The Movie Titanic That Will Make You See It In A Different Light

The Titanic (1997) was the most expensive movie of its time and it is still in the top three highest-grossing films. It captured the hearts of many and is relevant to this day. Who doesn’t know the song My Heart Will Go On, which was created for the movie? And some of you may even know the whole movie by heart. Such phrases as “I’m the king of the world” or “draw me like one of your French girls” became iconic and quoted outside the context of the Titanic. And the debate whether or not Jack could have fitted on the door is never ending.

When Oscars are handed out, it’s possible best picture, director, writing and all four acting wins will be for films about real people.
The odds of this sweep seem slim. But this past year has been all about unexpected events, so anything is possible. Certainly, there are a wealth of contenders: This year’s Oscar race is heavy with biopics and fact-based dramas.

Hollywood has always adapted to world changes, and Oscar campaigning this year has effectively adjusted to COVID. But one part of the awards season is missed more than the others: seeing a contender on the big screen.
Studios have delayed several big-scale films, including “Dune” and “West Side Story,” until later in 2021. So “small” movies are dominating the season, but even they are feeling the effects.
More from Variety
The sound design of “Minari” and “Sound of Metal,” the cinematography of “Nomadland” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” the production design of “One Night in Miami” and “The Father,” to name just a few, are admirable on the small-screen, but the nuances would be even more effective in a theater.

Kate Winslet 'would have been disgusted if she came from wealth or royalty'

Winslet was one of four children born to parents Roger and Sally, in Reading.
Her maternal grandparents were actors and her father, between labouring jobs to support the family, was a performer too.
She enrolled at Redroofs Theatre School but had to leave after she sat her GCSEs because her parents couldn’t afford the fees.
Despite attending a private acting school, Winslet maintained that her parents always “frowned upon wealth”.

And then there was "Frasier."
ViacomCBS on Wednesday announced its beefed-up streaming service Paramount Plus, highlighting a dizzying mix of existing content, new shows and revivals of long-owned properties like the Seattle-set sitcom, in the latest bid by a media company to win streaming dollars.
"This is a big day, a new day - a new beginning," said ViacomCBS chairman Shari Redstone, speaking from a virtual presentation on the Paramount lot in Los Angeles.
The company is betting that renaming and supercharging CBS All Access - its existing service -with a vast supply of new content will help it compete with Disney's Hulu, Comcast's Peacock, Warner Media's HBO Max and, to a lesser extent, Netflix and Disney Plus.

Roots: The History of the Tobins | Irish America

Tobin is not an indigenous Irish name, but the family can be regarded as having become completely hibernicized. Its Irish form, Toibín, is a gaelicized version of the Norman ‘St. Aubyn.’ Another interpretation is that the name was first called de St. Aubyn and the original bearers were from Aubyn, in Brittany, France.
According to the renowned Irish historian and genealogist, Edward MacLysaght (1887-1986), the family came to Ireland in the wake of the Norman invasion and by 1200 were settled in Counties Tipperary and Kilkenny, from where they spread to the neighboring counties of Waterford and Cork. They are still found in considerable numbers in those counties, though the name is relatively rare elsewhere in Ireland. The Tobins became so influential in Co. Tipperary that in medieval times, the head of the family was known as Baron of Coursey, though this was not an officially recognized title. According to Clyn in his annals, the fourteenth century Tobins were a turbulent sept more dreaded by the English settlers than the native Irish. The place Ballytobin near Callan, Co. Kilkenny took its name from them.
