The latest edition of parliament’s register of members’ interests has shed light on the sort of gifts the current cohort of MPs enjoyed in the first of their five-year term, which began in 2019.
The MPs from across the political divide were pampered with gifts such as canned fish, fruit baskets, bouquets of flowers, free soccer tickets, livestock, overseas jaunts and cash donations from generous friends and church congregants. ....

The NEC was convened to discuss the party’s step-aside resolution, as well as the appeals process for members implicated by the policy, and Magashule’s refusal to follow the party’s instruction.
Magashule – who was dealt a temporary suspension earlier this week – was removed from the party’s National Executive Committee [NEC] meeting when members of the meeting saw him on the Zoom call.
Magashule was reportedly not invited to the meeting due to the suspension, and members claimed the meeting was “not properly constituted” with him present. This follows after a unanimous was taken on Friday to exclude him from the meeting. ....

The FW de Klerk Foundation has become amongst the latest to welcome a decision by the African National Congress (ANC) to suspend its secretary general Ace Magashule.
Magashule was suspended on Wednesday, 5 May 2021, after he refused to step aside, in line with the party’s contentious resolution, which has no doubt fueled factionalism within the ANC.
Under the step-aside policy, members facing corruption and other serious crimes, are to step aside from their posts or face suspension ....
