was a moderate why i should ve said a conservative but yet not conservative enough for the freedom caucus. they went out after him, williams timmons does pull out a win. he was also trump endorsed. if you go out to nevada, we saw that sam brown. now, this is a purple heart. winter got a last-minute endorsement from donald trump he easily went out in nevada. that s gonna be a race that we are going to be watching for control of the united states senate. and then if you go up to north dakota, there was 32 or three up there in north dakota where donald trump did very well. and of course this is very interesting up in maine, a nascar, former nascar driver endorsed by donald trump won the nomination to take on jared golden up in maine. so six for six last night, donald trump as he heads into his convention, kate huge victory also for just for republicans writ large, especially in the house in ohio because they they held a special election to replace the retired retired congressman bill johnson yeah. you so what s interesting about this is it, we re going to spend a lot of time talking about this race because this is a congressional district that really borders the pennsylvania ohio border, right? they re incredibly conservative, republican should have a lock on it. they didn t do as well last night, don t necessarily they did win the race, but they didn t win by as many points. we should note those special election so there s probably about a fifth of the voters showed up yesterday. i will see certainly it s a different electorate going into november cave, but democrats will certainly be looking at this for some signs of hope we have. i mean, how many, how many cycles and how many years have we tried to figure out what special election say about the bigger general elections waiting standby, just you have via this one once again, we north dakota maybe one of the most fascinating things that happened last night, voters passing a measure. i m going to say it s the well it s crunch time for the us. we ve got the fed decision inflation report back to back just hours apart. this would be like having game seven of the stanley cup finals and the nba finals on the same day, except here exactly, exactly. like that. except these issues, these events actually really impact everyone because it gets at the cost of living the major frustration with this economy. and so the big question for the inflation report is whether or not we re going to see any sort of progress at all and whether or not we do is going to have a big say in what the fed does next. now the fed, there s almost no chance that the fed lowers interest rates today. the big question is, what does it say about rates going forward previously they were penciling three interest rate cuts this year. that seems very unlikely, just looking at the calendar. so are they going to go to one cut, which would mean maybe no interest rate cuts before the election, or two, that would be good news for the white house and borrowers were dealing with really high cost of living and interest rates right now. and also, what does jerome powell say at the 230 presser today? how tough does he sound about inflation? how concerned is he, is he preaching patients? here s a look at the estimates for two days of inflation report 3.4%. that s the annual rate that would signal no progress at all. well ahead of the precocial ovid rate, but the silver lining could be the month over month figure 0.1% that would be a good number. it would be driven by lower gas prices. and this would actually be the lowest month over month inflation figure. we ve seen since last fall. and i think when you look at the trend for inflation, it s clear that we re in a better place than two years ago. this inflation shouldn t figure was about 9% two years ago, miles away from that, but it s also clear, kate that the progress has stalled and it needs to resume before interest rates go lower. yeah, way better than two years ago. but how people are feeling about it and how their personal economy feels. that these are not always in line as we know, you re also taking a closer look at the pay gap between the c-suite and all the workers below and help people are feeling about it today? yeah, people are feeling very, very frustrated about how much more money ceos make than the average worker. now, there s this new poll out from bentley university in gallup, shared exclusively with cnn. and it finds that 83% of americans say it s important for businesses to avoid a major pay gap between ceos and employees that includes 56% who say this is extremely important. and what s striking here is this really cuts across gender generation even when you look at it by party 96% of democrats say this is important, but also 83% of independence two-thirds of republicans. so this is a clear bipartisan issue across the political spectrum. and yet, when you ask americans, how re companies doing on this issue, they say the companies are failing. look at this just 13% say companies are doing good job of a voting and pay gap excellent or good. 21% say fair and a clear majority, 66% say companies are doing a poor job here. and i think the number is kinda back that out, right? ecuador had a study that showed that it would take a 196 years for the average employee to make what the typical ceo makes, 196 years. we saw that last year, the average worker got about a $4,300 pay bump. the average ceo, 1.5 million more, an even some former ceos are alarmed. i talked to a medtronic former ceo bill george. he told me that he he s trebled because ceo pay has gotten completely out of hand tomorrow, kate, tesla shareholders are going to vote on whether or not to approve elon musk 40 $40,000,000,000 pay package? so there s a process. good morning to take ammonia to john and here s what the process will entail. we have something called pretrial services at the federal level. what does that is to probationary wing, what they will do is they will do a deep dive into his prior history including everything, finances, health, family et cetera. they ultimately that is pretrial services, probation issue, a report and recommendation that s significant that goes to the judge while that s happening, what ends up happening is that your lawyers are preparing a memorandum with the recommendation as it relates to sentencing. i suspect that that ll be inclusive of all kind of people who know, you know what you re about, whether be clergy, businesspeople, colleagues, et cetera? euro. thereafter prosecutor submit their sentencing memorandum to the judge and then you of course, have the sentencing date where you go in. there ll be oral argument with respect to what s appropriate and there are these things at the federal level called sentencing guidelines. i know we talk about this with respect to 25 years, ten years on this, that not at all. the the federal sentencing guidelines include the offense level with regard to the offense for which you were convicted, in addition to your criminal history, let s remember, he s a first offender? no. no criminal history to speak of. and the nature of this allegation is not violent. and so all of that will be happening in the ensuing weeks and months. but he pleaded not guilty, made this go to trial? yes. generally speaking, in sentencing, when you plead out, you plead guilty. that s when you get the lighter sentence. so what might the impact be there? so that s true and obviously at they also at the federal level, have acceptance of responsibility points. it s this interesting mix, john, where you have these calculations is really, you quantify that at the same time a person should be permitted to exercise their due process. let s remember, this is a very sympathetic pick case. jurors themselves questioning whether it should have gone to trial, saying it s a waste of taxpayers money. so i don t think the judge will ultimately hold that against him. obviously, there ll be some explained i m going to do that was gut wrenching testimony, et cetera. it s not an offense for which she needs to write go to jail. that s obviously up to the judge, but when i m speaking about is regarding mandatory minimums, so it s very discretionary. the person in the black rozi will decide on some of the gut wrenching testimony. i did find it as the after this wrapped and the verdict came down, jurors seem to think that the defense is decision to call hunter biden s daughter, naomi, to the stand that it didn t help his case wonder number ten, so they felt bad that they put naomi on trial as a witness. i think that was probably a strategy that should have not been done. no daughter should ever have to testify against her dad. what do you think when you hear that? you know what it is kate hindsight s always 2020, right? right. and so what ends up happening is, is that you re having to make as a defense lawyer strategic decisions that you think and move the ball forward. i do believe that one of the plays of the defense was not only as it related to the merits of the case, you know what he wasn t addicted at the time. he didn t form the mental state he was in denial, et cetera i also think the play was what we call jury nullification having the jury failed bad about the fact that we re here having the jury believe it s a waste of resources to do it, having the jury believed that this is not adjust result to convict, and i think as part of that play, who would be more sympathetic? of course, then the daughter i just think some of it backfired with respect to what she said vs what text messages demonstrated with respect to how her father was really doing at the time, very quickly, the judge has said she wants to do sentencing when the next four months, but if there is an appeal, when does that how does that impact when hunter biden if he gets prison time, would have to report so what will happen is is that they have certainly will be an appeal that s part of the process. right. and what ends up happening is is that there s many basises to appeal. one of course, dealing with whether it s constitutional that is to take away his gun rights. another weather of course, a psychiatrist or medical health official could have testified as prediction while that s happening, the matter will proceed. the judge will pronounce sentence. i suspect that there could be what we call a stay pending that appeal. and then i ll also look for jon and kate, the timeframe timeframe is very important why dad is in the white house that has said, i m not going to pardon my son, has not ruled out a commutation. what s the difference if you re given prison time? well kate, you know, this is really interesting. we re learning about how federal authorities actually identify these people. i m told from law enforcement source, it was the us government s targeting of isis targets abroad that actually allowed them to make these identifications part of this ongoing investigation. of course, that s interesting because we know that earlier this year we saw that some of these us surveillance authorities come under heavy scrutiny and congress these sweeping ability of the us government to surveil certain targets abroad. but i m told it was those kinds of authorities that allowed them to actually determine. we have people here who have some kind of connection to isis targets overseas. now here s what we know, as you mentioned, these are eight tajikistan nationals who were arrested recently by ice as part of their removal authorities. now when they came across the southern border, they were vetted. a source tells me but there were no red flags that us authorities identified at the time. it was later after they were already in the country that this investigation determined they had those alleged isis connections. and the decision was made to deport them. i m told that this was hotly debated within federal law enforcement. do we continue to surveil them? federal investigators to determine if there s a potential plot here or do we just expel them and i m told that it was the ladder that us senior official ultimately decided to actually to just get them out of the country. now, of that group that was arrested, i m told that extremist rhetoric, so it s unclear whether the other members of the group were arrested simply by association with those individuals, but still questions there were winning to determine when the expulsions will actually take place. and then finally is worth pointing out this is obviously all coming as the department of homeland security and the fbi the office of the director of national intelligence have warned about increasing threats from terrorism. this is not a point in history. there are current threats. now, we know that the dhs recently came out with an assessment indicating just that it s something that federal authorities are certainly look king at this elevated threat that continues this year josh campbell, thanks so much. john and emotional day in connecticut, survivors of the sandy hook elementary school massacre will graduate high school almost 12 years after 20 of their classmates and six adults were killed, seen as brynn gingras is in new town this morning i have to imagine this is gonna be a difficult day. brynn yeah, john, listen bittersweet is the word that has been said many times in this community for what is going to happen today, this graduation and obviously there are more than 300 students who are celebrating the fact that they ve finally reach this milestone in their lives, graduating high school. but of course they will never and have never forgotten those 20 classmates that should be right there with them in those six educators should be celebrating with them as well. actually, during the ceremony, they re all going to wear green ribbons on their caps and gowns to have that memory close to them. the names of those 20 students are gonna be read throughout this ceremony. he said there are little bits of this celebration where they are really going to just remember how far they ve come and what they lost along the way. i want you to hear from three students who talked about what this day means to them after what they ve been through while they were in sandy hook on that day? where the military says a large missile barrage has being fired from lebanon towards its northern territory. the idf said about 160 projectiles in total crossed the border with some sparking fires as well. we ll have more on that in just a moment, but we re going to go first to a new report. released in the last hour from a un commission of inquiry finds israeli authorities and palestinian militant groups including hamas, are responsible for war crimes and other violations of international law. the commission has also found that israel is responsible for crimes against humanity to this military operations in gaza. following the october 7 hamas attack sentence, jumana crunch, it joins us now with major allegations well, max, this is a commission of inquiry, a body that was set up by the human rights council back in 2021 during that gaza offensive. and it was mandated to look into violations of international law by both sides. and for the past few months where they ve been doing is investigating the events of october 7, and, what has happened since, and they have released these two reports totaling more than 200 pages. where as you mentioned they accuse hamas and other palestinian armed groups is committing war crimes on october the seventh in israel. and they also accused israel of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. since october the seventh. now, they say that israel obstructed they re investigation, that they did not allow them access to palestinian territories or to israel, but they managed to interview victims, witnesses, come through thousands of open source items and using different methods and advanced methods of verifying this through forensic analysis and the list goes on. they did quite some forensic work according to the report. now, when it comes to october the seventh max, what they say happened is that they found that hamas and these palestinian six other armed palestinian groups. in addition, they say in some instances palestinians in civilian clothing as well they say that they were responsible for war crimes those include intentionally directing attacks against civilians willful killing, murder, torture, taking hostages, including children. and they also say they identified patron s indicative of sexual violence and concluded that these are not isolated incident but they were perpetrated in similar ways in several locations, primarily against israeli women. now, when it comes to the report on gaza and israeli military operations it s a list of these war crimes and crimes against humanity according to their findings using starvation as a method of warfare, murder, willful killing sexual violence. they accused israeli forces if committing extermination intentionally directing attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure. and what they talk about mocks here is looking at the immense civilian casualties, the numbers, the destruction in gaza. and they say that this is the result of what they say is a strategy of maximum damage rules of war, of proportionality distinction and adequate precautions. they say we re not taken during this campaign. they also say that they reached the conclusion that what is happening is a siege imposed on gaza, a total siege which they say amounts to collective punishment of the population, as you know, because of humanitarian aid not getting in and using starvation there. and they said that it s really forces did not provide people with enough time to evacuate to get out to safety list goes on here and they also found, they say significant incidents where civilians did not pose any threat incidents where civilians were holding white flags reported by cnn, as well cited in there just quickly, have we had a response from me? the border with some sparking fires. let s bring in cnn s ben wade, a man whose life for us in beirut, ben yes, max, this does seem to be the largest in one period, just this morning, the largest number of rockets hired from lebanon into israel, many of the rockets landed in the eastern part of that border area. but some of them actually land ended along the shores of lake tai barriers in addition to several landing just east of haifa as well. now, these rockets, according to his but its telegram channel, we re in response to the killing of four, his butler militants, one of them, a senior commander, overnight into town his zwei yet which is about 14 kilometers north of the border. so this definitely is a major escalation, but it comes after about week of an intensification of [laughter] give me a break. one of the jurors speaking out about the trial. listen. biden was on trial and he was just like anybody else. nobody is above the law. yeah. no matter how are. politics played no part in this whatsoever. it may not have been a political decision by the jury, but it will likely have political ramifications. former senior adviser to president barack obama david axelrod saying, quote: i don t think voters are going to hold biden accountable for his son s addiction or his son s misbehavior, but i think the real question is the toll it takes on him and his family. this is another heavy brick on the load. the first son is also facing another federal trial, which is expected to begin in september. over allegedly failing to pay over a million dollars in taxes. those taxes have since been paid and hunter biden has pleaded not guilty. guys? steve: all right, brooke. thank you very much. the cover of the new york post. first felon faces up to 25 years after historic verdict. and i heard on one of the other channels that apparently, you know, the jury got the case a couple days ago at 3:30 in the afternoon. they deliberated for about an hour. lawrence: they were 50/50. steve: it was split 6-6. a couple hours into the second day they were like, okay. he broke the law. and here s the thing. we knew he had broken the law because he signed that thing. and we know he put that x there. so it s one of those things where if he were not convicted on this, what does it take to get arrested and convicted in delaware? lawrence: when you look at the other channels and look at their conch of it, there is this reaction to compare what happened here and the justice system what happened to trump. and they say this is the legal system doing what it does this. is the right thing. but, i think they skipped the important step, this wasn t going go to trial at first, this was not there was unprecedented deal, and if they weren t shamed, both the prosecution as well as the defense with this deal, then we wouldn t have been here. now, you take that versus donald trump where you have unprecedented prosecution. not unprecedented deal. and i think there is a clear difference judicial system shouldn t be shamed. i get that everybody has someone, probably. i know i have family members that have struggled with addiction. steve: yep all of our family members should be treated the same it. looks like hunter biden is finally being held accountable like most americans would have ainsley. and, brian, we will bring you into this, too. the trump campaign said this is just a distraction from the real crimes, the real crimes are the biden family which has raked in tens of millions of dollars from china, raush and ukraine. what we learned in this court case the laptop really was hunter biden s. we knew that before. this is additional verification of that. which means we were lied to by those 51 intel individuals that signed that letter back before the election and joe biden. who lied to us about it. anbc, and cnn and npr who lied about it. social media individuals or social media platforms that were censoring this story so it didn t get out before the election. it s not just about addiction and lying on a government form. this goes beyond that the cover-ups. the money that the biden family possibly made from all of this. before the election. and burying a story so that you didn t know about it. you, the public, the voter didn t know about it before the election, brian. brian: yeah. a couple of things. number one out of everything on that laptop it s absolutely insane the one thing they get is the gun charge. on unsavory behavior that s witnessed there they all told us we are crazy for believing and definitely effected the 2020 election. also i think it s important this guy kevin morris who is funding all his legal defenses out of money. how do i know that s not hype. his daughter raised to hunter biden you are taking advantage of my dad who is writing checks for you. yeah. his dad is the president of the united states. he can t write the checks. but some obscure producer who made money early on and a sitcom nobody watches could empty his account for a guy who can t get off crack and obviously loves hookers. other thing is, the big story is coming up in the fall is going to be the tax case. and what about the made for tv moment, i m sorry, my heart does not go out to joe biden who has to go back to his house and stand in front of his driveway and hug his son who got convicted of a buying a gun and having haley biden throw it out while, by the way an hour before he was telling us the need for gun control. who booked that gig for him the day his son is actually. lawrence: that was so dumb. brian: actually convicted of a gun violation. the dumbest thing ever but smart to have the hug in the driveway so msnbc has something to talk about. and they want to say it s no dual path to justice and trump got convict and he got convicted. it s totally different. this guy actually scripted his conviction seven years ago. they made up charges on donald trump and didn t even tell us the charges until they handed it over to the jury. and when you come up and speak about a jury decision and don t like it, that s called an american free move to do. you are not being anti-american by criticizing a jury decision. is everyone happy with the way the o.j. decision came out. are you anti-american by saying o.j. pretty much got away with murder? no, i don t think so. so, yesterday really bothered me he comes off as a sympathetic figure where everything he has done is his own personal behavior. lawrence: speaking of that, brian, this is the media s reaction to that watch. this has to be as a parent the worst nightmare come true. joey and joe biden have been role models for parents of addicted children. you are seeing sort of such a sad day on personal level, but you are seeing such an uplifting day in terms of sort of heroic action in terms of what it means to live a principle. republicans have really struggled to make this line of attack stick because most people see this and feel sympathy. it is not an unfair verdict. they followed the law. but it s a sad verdict. this trial was so personal and so painful for the biden family. the details in this case, sarah, as you well know are really ugly and they are really sad. brian: we don t have audio here but just know, guys, that msnbc and cnn says it s a very sad day for the biden family which is true but it s all self-inflict and we will see how you guys feel about it. we are in cubey s in dallas. get the pulls of the people. what is your name? marlow. brian: what is your opinion on the hunter biden decision. one, you mentioned sympathy. i m wholly in agreement with you. if he had been doing crack cocaine or had an addiction for decades before his brother died, why would i feel sympathy? it had nothing to do with his brother dying. as far as the verdict, it s appropriate, he probably won t get jail time but he should get three felonies? what about one month each. other people go to jail for committing that crime. brian: because you guys are very aware of gun laws, especially in texas, right? well, i bet you everybody in this room knows somebody or their family member has been addicted to something in their life. and all i heard yesterday on the other networks was real sympathy towards towards hunter. no sympathy from our family. you get what you make your choices and you deal with your consequences. brian: also, what about the arrogance of showing up on the congressional steps and having a mini press conference and storming into a hearing he said he wasn t going to be at. he was grand standing prior to this. and he has got another case staring at him and sentencing somewhere in between. this is not the top priority of people here in dallas. do you know what is? immigration, border security, political corruption and inflation. delicious. turning now to some of your headlines, a crazed man hijacks a bus and leads police on a wild pursuit through atlanta yesterday. look at that the suspect allegedly holding a gun to the driver of that bus head during the pursuit and one of the 17 hostages was shot and killed. atlanta s mayor placing the blame on the availability of guns. too many guns on our streets. too many guns in our homes. too many guns in our schools, buses, et cetera. crime is down overall. violent crime is down. this day is not indicative of all of the days of the city of atlanta. this is a day we will never forget. ainsley: the suspect, who is a convicted felon with 19 prior arrests, was eventually taken into custody after police disabled the bus. 19 priors? interviewed by probation officers in new york. ahead of his sentencing for his 34 felony convictions. and hunter biden are waiting a verdict in delaware in his trial on federal gun charges jurors is set to resume their deliberations later today but let s go first to new york, where donald trump spent less than 30 minutes meeting virtually with probation officers. there reported judge juan merchan will help decide the sentence he s 34 felony convictions scene ends. brynn gingras has the details the former president finishing his meeting with a probation officer were told from a source that lasted about 30 minutes and his camp calling it uneventful. now it s not clear exactly what sort of questions were asked in this meeting, but what is customary is the fact that this always happens after a defendant has either pleaded guilty or is convicted of the crimes that they re charged with. we know some of the questions that are asked are about the criminal history of that person. the family background. there finally natural background. did they ever abuse alcohol or drugs, things like this? what s also not customary and this situation of course, the fact that there is a former president as the person who is being interviewed by the probation office, but also going to happen virtually. we know that the former president was at mar-a-lago. he was there with his attorney. that was allowed by if a judge in this case. now, what s going to happen next is that trump s defense team is going to submit their own sentencing recommendation and both that along with this report made by the probation officer, will be factored into judge juan merchan s decision about what sentence trump should face for being convicted on those 34 counts just a few weeks ago. so we re waiting, of course, for that to happen. that sentencing date still set for july 11, brynn gingras, cnn, new york well the. jury in hunter biden s federal gun trial will continue deliberations in the coming hours after they heard closing arguments in the case monday, the courtroom was packed with supporters of the president s son. he decided not to testify in his own defense. cnn s paula reid has the highlights from day six of the trial in a major show of support, hunter s family members and pastor taking up three rows in court today known the parameters you don t abandon your friends and family strip. and of course, what we have heard from the united states up until this point is the fact that this is according to the biden administration. and israeli deal, but this has been bags by the israeli government. they are confident that they will also back a full ceasefire implementation. but at this stage, we haven t in fact seeing the israeli government publicly embracing this still certainly not prime minister netanyahu heard from members of netanyahu s coalition who do not want to see a ceasefire, a grid, in fact, just yesterday we did hear from israel s representative to the united nations saying that actually israel is not prepared to engage in what she described as meaningless negotiations with hamas at the israeli government continues to be focused on its objectives of not only dismantling the organization, in its entirety to ensure that gaza no longer poses a threat to israel but also on ensuring that all hostages there s all returned before they can agree on a for a ceasefire agreement. of course, a couple of points to go over. of course in the ceasefire agreement, that is a three-phase plan which does set out the parameters for a full exchange of hostages for palestinian prisoners. and we ve heard from the biden administration saying that the eu us assessment at this stage is that hamas no longer hair is the ability to carry out an attack such as the attack that we saw on october 7, visa at one of the primary reasons why the us believes it is now the right time to strike a csi if i agreement, we have of course seen the biden administration at the united nations security council vetoing a ceasefire resolutions in the past. so the biden administration firmly believes that now is the right time. neither side has formally agreed to this resolution at the stage, despite hamas issuing a statement welcoming the resolution, we haven t seen a formal agreement. there are still at term to be in doubt. of course, within this resolution agreement, but there is mounting pressure internationally for both sides to come to a lasting a gradient. but of course, the israeli prime minister is also facing pressure at home, at mounting pressure domestically from israeli citizens who have been protesting now for weeks calling for a ceasefire agreement, calling for the israeli government to focus more on the return of hostages. but this now he s also facing pressure from within his own cabinet calling for a continuation of the war. we have seen far-right members of his coalition, including national security minister ben gvir, and finance minister bezalel smotrich, both of whom have been vocal proponent of the continuation of the war, both of whom have threatened to withdraw from government, essentially causing this neon has coalition to collapse if netanyahu does agree to a ceasefire agreement, they want to see the full destruction of hamas as netanyahu himself has expressed in the past. so certainly, a lot of pressure coming from various sides on me israeli government, but there has been mounting pressure from the international community, including some of israel s closest allies, such as the united states, for israel to agree to this deal at the us, of course, has also been calling on its regional allies in the middle east to put pressure on hamas to agree to this deal as well. but of course, we have heard from the state department in the past acknowledging that the terms of this deal, according to the state department, are nearly identical. to an agreement that hamas had agreed two weeks ago. so the hope is that this those parties. they re performed very well in this recent election in the european union? this week, of course, the us president heads to italy for the g7 summit, but he s going to meet with the french and german leaders for the first time since their party s took this hit in the european elections the us we know, is hoping that it will have a 50 billion will alone for ukraine using frozen
