In the hardest hit state, new york, this is the scene in brooklyns largest hospital where 32 coronavirus patients are now being treated in an area that normally only has 17 beds. And the number of coronavirus cases is rising quickly. So were now in the Critical Care area of the emergency department. Painful and it has economic ramifications, but this is not something were flying blind in and that personally gives me hope. Whats important is for everybody to take part in staying at home and social distancing if you are outside. Exactly. I think, anderson, youve been to my own site in the drc. Other places we may not have had to do before is work as communities together to reduce spread of disease. This is something new to the american public, i think, and i think this is where we can make a very big difference. We have infrastructures in place that need to be bolstered, and so we need to be able to get on top of it. We need more ppe. We need universal testing. Another shift over, fourth one of the week. Not too bad. Today one of the patients asked me, so do you stay at a hotel, do you go home . I told him, no, i dont go home, i stay somewhere else. My daughter had autoimmune disorder so i try to protect her as much as i can. And they said it must be tough, you dont see your family for a while. I thought to myself, it could be worse. It could be a situation where i dont go home at all, ever. So thank the lord im still okay. Now is the time to toughen up, everybody. We have to fight. We have to fight and win. And the virus is nowhere near contained. We still dont have enough tests, doctors and nurses still dont have enough ppe and theres not enough medical equipment or space for the patients in need. Which is why in new york city an order to paramedics do not bring people in cardiac arrest to the hospital if you cant revive them on the spot pronounce them dead. The hospitals are too overloaded. In new york state, alone, the death toll is now over 2,000. Refrigerated trucks are parked outside of manhattan hospitals functioning as makeshift morgues to store the dead.
