Story City's Knotwater Barbecue's sauce is inspired by regional BBQ

James Beem of Story City has been hooked on creating his own barbecue sauce for many years. The exuberant response he got from customers while it was a hobby led him to consider making a business of it.
Now, despite obstacles created by COVID-19, Beem has his Knotwater Barbecue Company products on the shelves of several central Iowa retailers.
Beem pulls from different regions of the country for inspiration.
“I'm a fan of regional barbecue. Kansas City has their style. North Carolina has two or three different styles to them. Texas has a style,” Beem said. “I tried to combine all of those different flavors into one bottle” — his Knotwater's original.

Iowa business Joygrow mushrooms' niche market grows during pandemic

Joygrow mushrooms — a small, niche-market, Iowa business — has been finding strength through the pandemic by connecting with other businesses, like area restaurants that use its local produce.
“I really want to bring awareness to the network of other businesses that make my business possible,” owner Aaron Johnson said, “especially in this time now when everybody is truly struggling. I want to encourage people to support local by eating and buying local.”
Joygrow’s mushroom production has increased to about 150 pounds per week, up from approximately 25 pounds per week when Johnson first started the company in 2015. He’s had an emphasis on diversifying the offerings, and right now, has between a dozen and 15 strains of species in production.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - Hy-Vee stores is expanding its COVID-19 antigen testing program to 14 additional locations is Iowa on Monday.
Four stores have already been offering the rapid testing option where patients get results in 1-2 hours after completing the swab test.
Hy-Vee also administers the PCR COVID-19 test which requires 3-5 business days before results are known.
The new rapid antigen testing is being administered through an outdoor, drive-thru process. PCR tests are conducted the same way.
Hy-Vee is currently searching for more than 1,000 pharmacy technicians to assist with testing, and with COVID-19 vaccinations, once they become available.

Some Hy-Vee locations will offer rapid antigen testing to Iowans who have been exposed to COVID-19 or are symptomatic, the company announced.
The tests will be conducted at drive-thru windows at 19 stores in Iowa. Two metro Des Moines locations will begin offering the tests Thursday — the Urbandale Hy-Vee at 8701 Douglas Ave. and the East Euclid Hy-Vee at 2540 E. Euclid Ave. — and one in Iowa City at 1201 N. Dodge St.
The other 17 locations will open over the course of December. They include the West Lakes Hy-Vee, 1725 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, and Lincoln Center Hy-Vee, 640 Lincoln Way in Ames, where testing will begin Monday, and 3140 Agency St. in Burlington, where it begins Dec. 21.

Hy-Vee will be getting COVID-19 test results back to patients faster as they will begin offering rapid antigen testing at select stores.
Hy-Vee announced on Wednesday that they will offer rapid antigen COVID-19 testing at more than 40 Hy-Vee pharmacy locations throughout the Midwest.
This testing will be done via an outdoor, drive-thru testing process at 47 Hy-Vee pharmacies. The first 18 locations will begin testing today, Thursday, December 10. The remaining 29 locations will begin testing over the next two weeks.
Patients will receive same day test results in as little as 1-2 hours after completing the test.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Hy-Vee will offer rapid antigen COVID-19 testing at 47 Hy-Vee pharmacy locations via an outdoor, drive-thru testing process.
The first 18 locations will begin testing on Thursday, Dec. 10, with the additional 28 locations scheduled to begin testing over the next two weeks.
There will be two testing locations in Sioux Falls.
Patients will receive same-day test results in as little as 1-2 hours after completing the test.
Patients must register in advance.
