After three years of steady growth, the Quad Cities Yoga Foundation, founded by alumni from Western Illinois University’s School of Education, is seeking to grow their professional development and yoga in classrooms services in the Quad Cities for those who would benefit from yoga, and have the need for the services — such as those exiting jails, drug rehabilitation centers, and those who cannot afford to pay for yoga classes.

Western Electronic Gaming Association Hosts 'Smash Bash' Esports Tournament April 24 - Western Illinois University News

MACOMB, IL- The Western Electronic Gaming Association (WEGA) is hosting "Smash Bash" Esports tournament from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Western Illinois University's Student Recreation Center.
Pre-registration is required to play. Registration is $7, or $5 if participants bring their own switch.
Participants will get to compete against each other by either being in the same location, or being in any place with a solid WiFi connection.
Acting President of the WEGA, Benjamin Hironimus-Wendt, said virtual tournaments will take place like any other sort of tournament, where a player or a team of players will be set to play a match at a certain time.

MACOMB/MOLINE—Six students were inducted into Western Illinois University's chapter of Lambda Pi Eta (LPH), the National Communication Association's student honor fraternity, during the Spring 2021 semester.
The Pi Pi Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta inductees are Terry C. Smith, a junior communication major, Canton; Kelsey Cook, a senior communication major, Bettendorf, Iowa; Rebecca Aderoju, a graduate student communication major, Nigeria; Gabriella Gonzalo, a junior communication major, Ottawa; Lissette Cavazos, a senior communication major, Waukegan; and Emma Formhals, a senior speech pathology and audiology major, Canton.
Communication majors and minors with at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA (grade point average), a 3.25 GPA in communication (with a minimum of 12 hours in communication) who have also accumulated at least 60 hours are eligible for membership in the organization.

MACOMB,IL -- Western Illinois University's Office of Study Abroad & Outreach and School of Music will offer a variety of virtual youth programs for Summer 2021.
There is a potential of additional Outreach programs. Information regarding additional programs will be added to Outreach's website as it becomes available.
This year's class list includes:
June 14-17 and 21-24, 2021, Art: Colorful Minds & Creative Hands
This two-week program is available only for students in grades 9-12. Program cost is $100.

WIU's Archaeological Field School to Continue Summer Work - Western Illinois University News

MACOMB, IL- Western Illinois University's (WIU) Archaeological Field School will resume excavations at the Orendorf prehistoric archaeological site in Fulton County. Through the Anthropology program at WIU, Field School students will have an opportunity to participate in the excavation of an unusual multi-component site this summer.
The Orendorf site is a world-renowned Mississippian village and mound group located on a bluff top, overlooking the central Illinois river valley. It has been the site of numerous WIU excavations since the 1970s, and is made up of at least four settlement sites, which resulted from the relocation of the village several times over more than 150 years.

MACOMB — In a tradition started during the Western Illinois University School of Agriculture's 100th anniversary, six alumni have been chosen as the 2021 School of Agriculture Distinguished Alumni.
Ten alumni were recognized last year: Mark McCully, Gerry Salzman, Jeff Galle, Terry Kestner, Taylor Steinburg, Gordon Roskamp, Monte Lowderman, Chris Wilson, Martin E. O'Connor and Philip E. Bradshaw.
"The 100th year anniversary event was a huge success," said School of Agriculture Director Andy Baker. "The highlight of the evening was the recognition of our 10 distinguished alumni who were honored that night. All of these individuals have achieved remarkable feats in their careers and are huge supporters of the School of Agriculture. It was great to have our current students hear about their experiences at WIU, and how these experiences provided the foundation to advance their careers in agriculture."
