A fire burned to the ground. There was a second capitol built in the same location. It was a functional space but not meeting the needs of expanding State Government of minnesota. The ventilation was not very good. Even a few years after that had been built and occupied, there was discussion among the legislature to say we need to find a building that is permanent and going to accommodate the needs of the public as well as our growing State Government.
