A great example is the mutually valuable interactions between our student veteran population (11.5% of our students are using VA benefits) and the many organizations in Sarasota and Manatee counties that connect with and support 88,000 local veterans and active military personnel and their families. USF is one of the nation’s top veteran-friendly universities, dedicated to providing our military and veteran students and their families with the support they need to excel academically and professionally. The Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2020 report ranked USF first in Florida and fourth nationally among all four-year U.S institutions, and U.S. News and World Report also named USF a 2020 Best College for Veterans.

He was very loving and taught respect and kindness for others," his daughter, Kathe Neely, said. "We always had dinner together with a prayer. He was the last to sit down and the last to get his plate. He was no different at home than in front of others: always generous and giving. It was a great family to grow up in."
