This started with a visit to Udupi Sri Krishna Temple where he dedicated Vishwapatha, a new queue system for devotees to have darshan of Lord Krishna. Training program for women being inaugurated in Karnataka. MANGALURU: Based on a request from the state government, the College of fisheries will soon prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for setting up dry fish curing yards in the three districts of coastal Karnataka. Speaking on the sidelines of a three-day training programme for fisherwomen, organised jointly by the College of Fisheries and the coastal development authority on Friday, B Manja Naik, professor and head, department of fish processing technology, College of Fisheries told TOI, “The government has asked the college to prepare a DPR for setting up a dry fish curing yard at Mangaluru, Udupi and Karwar. Traditionally, fishermen have been drying fish, but this is done in an unscientific and unhygienic manner, leading to the stench in the surrounding areas. (TOI photo) br /p UDUPI: The much touted Marina project proposed near Dariya Bahadurgad landmass off Padukere beach here received a boost with Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune agreeing to prepare a feasibility report. In a communique to the secretary of Mangaluru based coastal development authority, CWPRS while indicating that the study will be carried out in five phases, stated preliminary estimate for the study will be around Rs 85-lakh. CWPRS scientists in the communique stated that the studies that will be carried out are mathematical model studies for wave tranquillity, for shoreline changes, for hydrodynamics and sedimentation as well as desk and wave flume studies for the design of breakwater and field data collection and analysis – all for the development of the Marina. Representative image MANGALURU: In one of the biggest seizures, the officers of Mangaluru customs have arrested two passengers, who arrived from Sharjah and seized 2.15kg of gold concealed gold in paste form in inner wear. The seized gold is valued about Rs 1.09 crore. Imamuddin Ahmed, commissioner of customs, Mangaluru said that based on intelligence and profiling of passengers, Customs sleuths intercepted Faizal Thotty Melparamba, 37 and Mohammad Shuhaib Mugu, 31, residents of Kasaragod, Kerala. They had arrived from Sharjah by Air India flight IX 1384 on January 14. On personal search both passengers found to have concealed gold in paste form in their inner wear. A total gold of 2.154 kg of 24k purity valued Rs 1.09 crore was recovered and seized. ....
