Debate has begun on a bill to replace P.E.I.'s Child and Family Services Act, and the government says the law makes it clear for the courts and anyone else involved in child protection cases that the best interests of the child take precedence over any other consideration. 

P.E.I.’s director of child protection has quit after a shake-up in her department which she says was made without her consultation — and without considering the impact of the children in her care.

The P.E.I. government is waiting for more expert opinion before making a decision on ending vulnerable sector checks for some workers in child care centres.
