This morning al qaedainspired militants are pushing deep into southern iraq headed toward baghdad. In about 48 hours the insurgent blitzkrieg has overrun cities once controlled by u. S. Forces during the nearly nineyear iraq war. First to fall, iraqs second largest city, mozul, then tikrit and this morning militants have reached the outskirts of samara, just 70 miles from baghdad. Iraqs u. S. Trained forces are offering little or no resistance. Many are laying down their arms and hundreds of thousands of iraqi citizens are on the run.
