Gen Z more likely to ditch work for a 'mental health' day — here's why that concerns job experts

Due to the rise of Gen Zers with “common mental disorders” (CMD), such as anxiety and depression — spurred by everyday issues like breakups, meeting deadlines and the pressures of social media — employees in their early 20s are far more likely to call out of work for a “mental health day” than millennials and Gen Xers over age 40, per a February 2024 report. Even more surprising, an alarming number of zillennials grappling with the run-of-the-mill conditions are forgoing the workforce altogether, remaining jobless in the name of mental wellness.

These parents give their kids unlimited mental health days off from school

Moms like Chevonne Dixon aren’t worried about their kids being awarded a “Perfect Attendance” certificate at the end of the academic year. Instead, the Long Islander is more invested in ensuring that her 17-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter, both honors students, don’t experience burnout — which is why she grants them as many mom-sanctioned mental health days off from school as they each need. Dixon, 39, a mom of two and project manager from Nassau County, tells The Post that she first began giving her brood the OK to skip last school year after noticed how overwhelmed they’d become by juggling schoolwork, homework, extracurricular activities, friends and the pressures of social media.

If you know why the 'Dune' stars and celebs are posing this way, you're definitely Gen Z

When "Dune: Part Two” Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Austin Butler posed Thursday at the much-anticipated franchise film’s premiere in Seoul, South Korea, the trio didn’t offer up your standard, simmering red-carpet moves. Instead, the performers each cupped one of their hands to the side of their smiling faces as photographers captured the unified gesture. It turns out Gen Zers Chalamet, 28, and Zendaya, 27, joined millennial Butler, 32, in embracing forms of the Asian country’s cultural mainstay aegyo.
