During the historic referendum in June 2016, the UK voted to leave the European Union by a slim margin of 52 percent to 48 percent, ending the country s 47-year membership of the bloc. Prime Ministers Theresa May and then Boris Johnson fought off attempts from Remainers to hold a second referendum on Brexit or even reverse the original democratic result. But those desperate for the UK to quickly rejoin the EU have now taken to Twitter in their droves to compare the shameful riots in the US to the historic democratic EU referendum vote.
