Long beach has always been proud of its aviation history. In january of 1910 the first United States air meet was held here in the mingus field which is adjacent to long beach. People came from all over southern california. It was amazing. A lot of people were inspired to become aviators. They caught what i call aviation fever. It was the goal of the city of long beach to make long beach as important to aviation as detroit was to the auto world. Long beach always had a vision for an airport. The first airfield opened in 1920 and it was one of the first municipal airports in the United States. One of the people there was amelia erhardt. It was where she was inspired to learn how to fly. She was about 23 years old then and decided she would get a job as a telephone operator. She earned money enough to learn how to fly and she learned from one long beach aviator by the name of man ....
As of the three Senate Office buildings. This is a separate building that is connected to this building, they are really two house of the same building. They are entirely different. , we are in the room known as hart 216. This room was specifically designed for television, and we are in one of the television booths overlooking the hearing room. This building is quite large. When they knew that the dirksen building wasnt going to be sufficient, they originally thought they would just replicate the dirksen building and build an identical twin on the other side. That wouldnt be sufficient, it would not be large enough. What happened between when the dirksen building open and the Hart Building, was the u. S. Staff tripled in size. Part of that was a result of vietnam and watergate. Up until then, the executive branch had provided most of the information that congress needed. When t ....
Now. And welcome back, everybody, to the closing bell. Im mandy drew i sitting in for maria bartiromo. Lots of drama in washington. Congressional leaders have arrived at white house. They arrived there about an hour ago with three days to go before we go over that proverbial fiscal cliff. They are meeting with the president and the treasury secretary timothy geithner, and they are trying to hash out a deal. But reports that the president has nothing new on the table has ended up spooking wall street in a big way just in the last hour, and as bill said we finished down near the lows of the day, down about 157 points for the dow. Settling up right now. Down what, about 165 at the very low, bill . I think so, yes. And the nasdaq finishing down 25 points and the s p off by 15, a fifth straight day in the red. Well, it is the last friday of 2012. Its in the books. Check. Still no deal in sight and no new offer either on the table from the president as eamon javers told us a little while ago ....
Society this morning over on the house side. They allowed a senator to go across on the house side. The presiding officer knows, she served there. Once in a while we get to go over there. They were kind enough to invite us over there this morning. They did remarkable work on this legislation and are continuing their advocacy today even as we speak, and we are grateful for their for their work. Autism speaks is another Great Organization thats done enormous work to bring us to where we are today. And the arc as well. A lot of americans know about the arc, the National Downs Syndrome Society as well as autism speaks. So were grateful for their support but we still have a ways to go. One of the best ways to ensure that this legislation will get over the goal line we dont want to use too many football analogies here, but if were if were getting close, even if ....
And Global Warming, which they say is caused by fossil fuel burning. Are we going to have it both ways . Saying to the Environmental Community that you are concerned about Global Warming . You asked a lot of questions. Coal is an important part of the economy and i support the good jobs it produces. As far as the Climate Change part of that, i stepped up to the plate saying i am willing to work with both sides of the aisle and anyone who is willing to have the conversations about how we support all sectors of the economy and not just the Largest Corporation and wealthiest individuals. Part of that is creating a Long Term Plan for shifting to ....
