　　今年55岁的董多杰是青海省海东市互助土族自治县北山林场的一名管护员。曾经，他是一名拿着斧头、背着锯子、靠伐木为生的“砍树人”。
　　2019年，听闻互助县北山林场招聘社会管护员，与木头打了30多年交道的董多杰穿上管护员工作服，从一名“砍树人”变成了“看树人”。
　　“林子还是这片林子，干的活大不一样了。过去，我用锯和斧头砍树。现在，我用锹和镐种树。”董多杰说，现在每个月工资有2500元，每年收入达3万元。
　　“2000年以前，林场靠伐木来养活职工，砍倒的林木当地人用来盖房子，或卖到兰州。”互助县北山林场场长赵昌宏说，“那时，林场每年有约10000立方米林木的砍伐任务。树木价格最高的几年，林场每年伐木收入能达到300万元。”
　　1998年，中国启动天然林保护工程。“林场作为自收自支的单位，木头不让砍伐了，发工资的钱从哪来？人员分流怎么分？”赵昌宏心里打起了鼓，“大量伐木工人由于没有编制，只能回去种田或外出打工。”赵昌宏说。
　　打鼓归打鼓，但不能打退堂鼓。2001年，赵昌宏担任北山林场副场长，从曾经指导伐木的检测员变成指导植树造林、森林抚育的技术专家，“林场逐步返聘原本伐木的技术工人回到林区，担任管护员。”
　　如今，互助县北山林场每天有610名管护员分班组对1127平方公里的山林进行巡护。“除了一年四季防火外，我们还要防治病虫害和防止盗猎盗伐。”董多杰说。
　　没有巡护工作时，董多杰会和同事们进村入户，向老百姓宣传林业政策，倡导生态保护意识，杜绝盗猎盗伐行为。
　　董多杰说：“以前村民们会抓山上的野鸡、野兔，通过宣传教育，现在这种现象基本不会出现。”
　　“现在环境变好了，野生动物比以前多了不少，2020年，布设在林场的红外相机还拍摄到了雪豹。”再过几年，董多杰就到退休年龄了，他告诉记者，只要能走动，还要义务巡山。记者李宁
