Myanmar Protesters Swap New Year Blessings for Anti-Junta Statements

RFA
With little to celebrate as they kicked off the Burmese New Year on Tuesday, people across Myanmar staged holiday-themed protests to defy the military junta in what an activist called “a funeral wake for the whole country,” while the U.N. rights chief said she feared the nation faces a fate similar to war-shattered Syria.
Opponents of the generals who overthrew the country’s elected government on Feb. 1 scrapped water-related blessings of the Buddhist Thingyan Water Festival for protest messages, strikes, and memorials to victims of the army regime that has turned rifle grenades and battlefield weapons on unarmed civilians.

The Military's Coup is Giving Way to a New Dawn for Myanmar – The Diplomat

The Myanmar military coup council has not yet fallen, but it is failing fast on all fronts.

It has been more than two months since Myanmar’s military staged a coup and removed the elected National League for Democracy government, but the military junta, known officially as the State Administration Council (SAC), has yet to return the country to normalcy. Anti-coup, anti-military protests persist daily across the nation, and the demands for a federal democratic constitution and a new army to overthrow the junta grow louder and more coordinated with each passing day.
On the other hand, the coup council continues to terrorize the whole country, by brutally shooting protesters in the cities and with almost daily air strikes against villagers in Karen and states.  The now-terrorist military council has not yet fallen, but it is failing miserably in establishing its legitimacy and authority to govern.

Myanmar military sees violence as the only means: rights group

Myanmar's military will continue its brutal operations against people as violence is its sole means of holding onto power following the February coup, a Thai-based Myanmar human rights group researcher says.

Myanmar's brutal military was once a force for freedom – but it's been waging civil war for decades

Thousands of people took to the streets in Myanmar on Easter Sunday for another weekend of protests against the country's military, which deposed the democratically elected government in February.
Many of the demonstrators carried Easter eggs decorated with phrases and imagery used in the past two months, including drawings of three-fingered salutes and chants such as "We must win" as well as "Spring Revolution."
"Our people's creativities, braveries and courages are the future of Myanmar. Easter is all about the future, the people of Myanmar has great future in federal democracy, May this Easter bring the new hope and strength to United States of Myanmar," wrote Dr. Sasa, the country's special envoy to the United Nations, on Twitter.

Myanmar death toll mounts to 550 amid protests, military crackdown

The civilian death toll in the crackdown by the Myanmar junta has reached 550 since the Feb. 1 coup, a human rights group said Saturday.
Of those, 46 were children, according to Myanmar's Assistance Association for Political Prisoners. Some 2,751 people have been detained or sentenced, the group said.
Threats of lethal violence and arrests of protesters have failed to suppress daily demonstrations across Myanmar demanding the military step down and reinstate the democratically elected government.
Late Friday, armed plainclothes police took five people into custody after they spoke with a CNN reporter in a Yangon market, local media reported, citing witnesses. The arrests occurred in three separate incidents.
