On a space station . Good question. Well, i did go to work for nasa which was a big help for me. I decided being an astronaut was a goal. Really what i also work on was aircraft control systems. Thats where my main work at nasa was on. That could play into working on the shuttle, also helping out. I just got lucky in the selection process. Thats really there are so many qualified people who try to be astronauts. It takes a little bit of luck just to get in. I just happened to get a little lucky. Had all the requirements needed and just a little bit of luck and i made it. So commander, in about 30 seconds tell us about the best experience youve had onboard the space station itself. Well, the best experience is, well always looking out window and the best way to look out the window is not having a window in front of you, thats going on a spacewalk. Thats probably the best experience. Its a fantastic feeling. It is a little pressure on you at the same time but, boy, its quite an experienc ....

Rest of the world. The biggest gains for this country in that field are around the issue of equity. Equi when the biggest potential gains are getting people who are not within the s. T. E. M. Pipeline into it, i think about that out being a huge advantage that we have as a country because we have a tradition of trying to broaden opportunity for all americans. The s. T. E. M. Fields are if you believe that brain power ana capability are equally distributed across all differeny parts of our a society, then ret thats by far the biggest place to gain, because if you have role models that can inspire people from all different backgrounds, thats part of thew way how you will open up the pipeline. I think to get back to your peln first question aboute. Competitiveness, i dont think we fully understand what being more competitive in the Global Economy actually means in termse of how do we measure it. Thats a good place to start. I think t ....

Global economy actually means and i think thats a good place to start. Certainly as we create new processes with dealing with harsh environments, that brings us to have a skill we didnt have before. Thats one way to enhance competitiveness, assume iing th other thing, it forces us to think of ways to make things more Cost Effective in a constrained environment. That, by its nature, is forcing a number of companies now to look at their manufacturing processes, their development processes. As we talked about with stem, having a mission like this, and the many step it is takes to make this mission real, if we do our jobs right and we provide that inspiration of what this is, that will draw people, new people into our companies, you know. And that enhances by rejuvenating, and bringing a different mindset. As ken said we tend to have an older workforce right now. Infusing that workforce with a number of, you know, large percentage of ....

CSPAN3 Abraham Lincolns Second Inaugural Address 150th Anniversary April 1, 2015

Seems, he made it that way. He did this with all of his writings that ive been able to track. He also liked to he didnt think it was done until he had read it to somebody opinion you would think he could get that by reading it to himself, but he said no, that doesnt work. One time he got senior statesmen, old man blair or somebody like that, tell me what you think of this. But one time he had to send it off. It was a letter, it was summertime. He sat down with the clerk in his office and the clerk said, do you want me to comment on it mr. Lincoln . He said no, just listen to it. I have to have Somebody Just listen to it. So what im trying to say is he was a very, very deliberate writer, far more deliberate than people think. Thinking ahead not buying taken by surprise. Ready with a phrase ready with one of his wonderful antithesis. Without it, i cannot fail kind of thing. When you start tracking it, he spent a lot of time just writ ....

CSPAN3 Key Capitol Hill Hearings April 1, 2015

We think of ourselves, were the richest nation, the freest nation and never put those statements to a test. So we have a very inflated notion of our capabilities as a democratic society. I think if king or lincoln were around today, lincoln for a different reason, i think he was a skeptic about it was all in gods hands anyway. You can hope, hes big on hope. I was going to say the questioner wanted a practical suggestion. Ill just say this. Take advantage of the fact that certainly for the generations that are here now, the Lincoln Memorial is not just about lin lincoln but also Martin Luther king. We should encourage that and the whole idea of monuments is to cherish and keep alive and promote what they represent because its human nature to become complacent. Maybe im more optimistic than you. I admit to that. You sound a little dismal here about where were going. To think o ....
