Tito Fuentes discusses Willie Mays

Tito Fuentes still remembers what Ozzie Virgil Sr. told him when he first reached the Majors with the Giants in 1965.
“You’re about to see what a real ballplayer looks like,” Virgil said.
Virgil, of course, was referring to Willie Mays, who headlined a star-studded Giants roster that also included fellow Hall of Famers Juan Marichal, Orlando Cepeda and Willie McCovey.
When a 21-year-old Fuentes joined the fray in August 1965, Mays was in the midst of his second National League MVP campaign, flashing the greatness that Virgil saw when he played alongside the "Say Hey Kid" at the beginning of his career in New York.

Why the Padres' first no-hitter may really have come in 1982

San Diego Padres fans had to wait 52 years for the franchise’s first no-hitter  — about 39 years too long, the way I see it.
On June 2, 1982,
Juan Eichelberger was credited with throwing a one-hitter in a 3-1 victory — with neither team scoring an earned run — over the Chicago Cubs on a windy Wednesday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
Officially, the Cubs’ only hit was a single in the second inning.
Scot Thompson hit a ground ball between second and first that second baseman
Tim Flannery was unable to field cleanly.
The official scorer, Dave Nightingale, scored it a hit.

Instead, we see a frozen moment from Cubs history.
What do we know about this moment?
Fortunately, the photo includes a shot of the mini-scoreboard on the facade of the left-field upper deck. The Cubs are leading the Phillies 4-2 and are batting in the bottom of the fourth inning, with two out and No. 34 at bat.
Given the uniforms the team is wearing, this can be only one player at the plate — Steve Trout.
Trout started nine games against the Phillies at Wrigley Field in his tenure with the Cubs. We can, however, immediately eliminate five of them because either the Cubs didn’t score at least four runs in those five, or the Phillies didn’t score at least two, or both.
