LuAnn Ackerson passed away on Sept. 21, 2023 surrounded by her husband, Dennis, and sister, Nancy, after a short battle with acute leukemia. LuAnn was born in Spring Grove, Mn., the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth Ellingson. She graduated from the University of Mn. with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned a Master of Science degree from the School of Public Health with a specialty in Community Mental Health. She worked as a Fairview Deaconess Nursing Instructor in Minneapolis, as an Urgent Care/Emergency Nurse Therapist at Park Nicollet Clinic in St. Louis Park, Mn. and as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Mental Health at the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Cloud, Mn. retiring in 2016. For many Native American Veterans, and others, LuAnn was the chosen therapist. The impact on and help she gave to her patients is immeasurable and her greatest accomplishment. LuAnn and Dennis’s deep love for each other was long and enduring. She was an extremely compassionate, generous, and loving person. Time with family was always a priority. Everyone received gifts from LuAnn and she was always on the hunt for the next one. She was creative, loved art, and was talented in painting and writing. When at her lake cabin and during many trips, she enjoyed and appreciated nature, taking many pictures for the memories. She loved her eagles and chipmunks. Those who knew her will miss her quick wit, her sense of humor, her caring, the fun, and her big hugs. Those who have gone before her are her parents, and her brother Stephen. LuAnn is survived by her husband Dennis, sister Nancy McCoy, sister-in-law, Peggy Ellingson, brother-in-law, Stewart Ackerson(Terry), numerous special and loved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, dear relatives and friends. A new study published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research that included 5,365 older men indicates that each of these measures are linked with a higher risk of developing hip and other fractures. Investigators found that including both measures compared with including only abdominal aortic calcification or only vertebral fractures improved the ability to predict which men were most likely to experience a hip or other fracture in the future.
