Maneater | Art and Archaeology Museum relocates to Ellis Library

The museum of art and archaeology is being relocated from Mizzou North to the inside of Ellis Library as a part of MU’s Space Reduction and Strategic Relocation Plan.
It will be located on the lower level and display a selection of pieces. These are yet to be determined as the museum staff decides how to best utilize the space.
On March 4, MU published a news release detailing the plan. It includes the vacating of Mizzou North on Business Loop 70.
Plans to sell the building were announced in 2018 and according to the Columbia Daily Tribune, a buyer is being sought out.

A plan to increase tuition above the rate of inflation at MU and throughout the UM System was proposed Thursday to the system’s governing board.
The University of Missouri System Board of Curators is likely to take up the proposed increase next month at a specially called meeting. It was unclear whether the board would vote on the increase then or at a future meeting.
At their daylong meeting, curators discussed the plan, presented by the system’s top finance officer, as well as a new undergraduate veterinary tech program at the MU College of Veterinary Medicine, new policies banning relationships between faculty or staff and students and the system’s five-year capital plan.

Maneater | 'We do not need as many buildings': MU to demolish 8 buildings in cost-and space-cutting measure

Eight buildings on the University of Missouri campus will be demolished as part of the school’s effort to reduce maintenance costs and use space more efficiently, the university announced Thursday.
Set for eventual demolition are the Columbia Professional Building, Loeb Hall, London Hall, Neff Annex, Noyes Hall, the Old Student Health Building, Parker Hall and Read Hall. MU is seeking a buyer for a ninth building, Mizzou North.
By removing 435,000 square feet of space, MU will save more than $2.5 million in annual operating costs and remove $93.7 million from its tally of deferred maintenance work. There is currently $868 million worth of maintenance needed across campus, a university spokesperson said.

MU plans to demolish several campus buildings; museums to leave Mizzou North

The following buildings will be demolished, according to a news release:
Parker and Noyes halls and the Old Student Health Building, which are next to each other on South Sixth Street;
Read Hall, on Hitt Street across from Ellis Library;
Loeb Hall, on South Fifth Street near Peace Park;
London Hall, on South Sixth Street next to Lafferre Hall;
Neff Annex, at Ninth and Elm streets;
Columbia Professional Building, on University Avenue across from Middlebush Hall.
"We have been developing this plan for years, and the plan is now actively beginning," MU spokesperson Christian Basi said.
The process of vacating buildings, which will take several months, has begun, he said. After that, MU will take bids for the demolition process.

Solar panels at UW-Platteville
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Platteville received state approval Thursday, Feb. 11 to construct a 2.4-megawatt solar array in Memorial Park.
It will be the largest solar array owned by a Wisconsin state agency, the university said, and will make the university the sixth-highest on-site producer of renewable energy among higher education institutions in the nation.
"We are excited to take this momentous step in our commitment to sustainability," said Chancellor Dennis Shields. "These efforts will save taxpayer money and have a lasting impact on future generations of Pioneers. I am proud that UW-Platteville can serve as a model of innovation and pave the way for other state agencies to follow suit."

C+C=BFF: A Maverick Science Love Story – College of Science – The University of Texas at Arlington

February 13, 2021
A lyric from a 1970s rock song proclaims, “In life one and one don't make two; One and one make one.” Chris and Caitlynn Meek, who met because of a mathematics class at The University of Texas at Arlington, would certainly agree with that equation.
Caitlynn and Chris met in a pre-calculus lab that neither of them originally intended to take, and being acquaintances turned into a platonic friendship and, eventually, into a relationship. They got engaged in October 2019, after dating for two years (“It felt like a few days,” Caitlynn says). They made it official this past summer with a wedding attended by family and a small group of their closest friends.
