GOP Leader: The COVID Relief Bill Is 'Corrupt'

GOP Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy stopped short of calling the new COVID relief bill criminal. But he did say it was "corrupt." According to the data, only 9 percent of the funds in the $1.9 trillion plan are going toward actual coronavirus health spending. The rest is saved for special interests, particularly progressive interests. Millions are going to Planned Parenthood, union pensions. Another $100 million is going toward San Francisco's Bay Area Rapid Transit system.
As Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) recently asked, "Who said a subway to Silicon Valley has anything to do with COVID?"
"It's just unbelievable," McCarthy told Fox Businesses anchor Maria Bartiromo on "Sunday Morning Futures." "This thing is just so corrupt, so costly. And you look at it, it's so liberal."

There may be no creature on this planet more stubborn than a Republican member of Congress. President Joe Biden's Covid-19 stimulus package is chugging along, with Democrats in the both the House and the Senate committed to its passage. And yet as a whole, the GOP caucus is still digging in its heels. But its reluctance reflects a partisan commitment to obstruction, not what Americans want.

Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) admitted that even he cringes when he sees how much spending is in the new COVID relief bill. The price tag for President Biden's "American Rescue Plan" is $1.9 trillion, and Espaillat acknowledged that in a bill that massive it's obvious "there will be one line that will probably be somewhat embarrassing."
One of those embarrassing line items is the $1.5 million for the Seaway International Bridge from New York to Canada. Another is the $100 million going toward San Francisco's Bay Area Rapid Transit system, otherwise known as BART.
CNN anchor Poppy Harlow capitalized on Espaillat's mixed emotions and asked him if he was comfortable with that kind of distribution.

Steve Bannon, the famous pardoned crook, zoomed in this week to the Commonwealth (God save it!) to talk to some of our local Republicans about the grand design of a Trump Restoration that is out there just beyond the limits of their bank accounts. From the Boston Herald (via boston.com):
Bannon told the West Roxbury Ward 20 Republican Committee during a video speech over the weekend that his new strategy is for Trump to run for Congress in 2022, get elected, and then become House speaker — assuming that Republicans also retake majority control of the House of Representatives and then rally behind Trump over the current congressman in line for the position. Then, as House speaker, Trump would move to impeach President Joe Biden over the still-unfounded and repeatedlydebunked allegations of widespread voter fraud tipping the 2020 presidential election, Bannon reportedly said.

Democratic Representative Adriano Espaillat of New York called some of the items in President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion economic relief plan "somewhat embarrassing" on Thursday.
In a Thursday CNN interview, host Poppy Harlow remarked to Espaillat: "There's $1.5 million of funding toward the international bridge between New York and Canada— a bridge. And then right around San Francisco in the Bay Area, there's $100 million to fund the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit, or BART. Are you comfortable with those in here?
Espaillat replied: "In any bill that has $1.9 trillion, there will be one line that will probably be somewhat embarrassing."
