now to a new report just out this morning that reveals some new eye-opening stats about children living in poverty. researchers say childhood poverty increased in 38 states during the last decade. they discovered nearly 15 million american children were poor during 2009. that is a dramatic increase. some good news, though. researchers did reveal infant mortality and high school dropout rates are actually on the decline. to politics. governor rick perry's attacks on president obama. during stops in iowa the texas republican said it's time the government get out of the job creation business and let the private sector do it instead. perry said the nation is not in the midst of a recovery but in an economic disaster. perry takes his campaign to new hampshire today. president obama was also in iowa talking up his new plan to spur growth in the nation's rural areas. responding to perry's criticism over his lack of military service, mr. obama said he'd cut the texas governor some slack given he's only been running for president for a few days. visitors to seaworld in orlando, florida, had a close encounter with the power of mother nature.
