MIAMI–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Univision Communications Inc., the largest Spanish-language content company in the U.S., announced today it has acquired VIX, Inc., the leading independent ad-supported streaming service that offers video-on-demand content to millions of U.S. Hispanics and consumers throughout Latin America. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
PrendeTV, the only ad-supported video streaming service created exclusively for U.S. Hispanics, featuring free, premium, 100% Spanish-language programming. VIX operates the largest Spanish-language, free ad-supported streaming platform serving Latin American and U.S. Hispanic audiences, including a content library of 20,000 hours of free Spanish-language film and TV programming. Hispanic media giant Univision Communications acquired VIX, an independent ad-supported streaming service with 20,000-plus hours of free Spanish-language film and TV programming. Univision said it plans to combine VIX with PrendeTV, its AVOD service set to launch sometime in the first quarter, in the U.S.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. VIX, based in Coral Gables, Fla., and previously known as Batanga Media, had raised $73.5 million in funding from investors including HarbourVest Partners, Tudor Investments and H.I.G. Capital, according to Crunchbase.
