welcome back to our viewers in the united states and canada. i'm paula newton and you are watching cnn newsroom. israel's war against hamas is crossing its 100 day mark on sunday. massive rally is underway in tel aviv at the hour. calling for the release of more than 100 hostages believed to still be held in gaza. an estimated 120,000 people are taking part in the event which is scheduled to last 24 hours straight. wrapping sunday night. hamas launched its deadly rampage into israel on october 7th, killing about 1200 people. but israel's ongoing offensive in gaza drew more protests around the world saturday including near the white house. cnn's gabe gutierrez was there. >> reporter: this was a huge rally that included a march

have been seeing right across the united states. the iowa state patrol says they responded to 86 crashes in less than ten hours because of those terrible road conditions. but other parts of the u.s. are also dealing with dangerous rain, snow, and coastal flooding. in oregon, falling trees toppled power lines, started fires and shut down transit. officials in portland say there has been at least one weather related death in the city. more than 250 daily cold records, 250 could be broken across the country through tuesday. 75% of the country will experience temperatures below freezing over the next seven days as a blast of arctic air moves south and east through the central united states. today marks 100 days since hamas launched its deadly rampage in israel killing about 1200 people. now right now, a massive rally is underway in tel aviv to mark that attack.

this war as you say sparked by the murderous rampage, more than 100 hostages remain in captivity probably deep underground in the tunnel network. we've heard from released hostages talking about the lack of food, lack of medicine and about female hostages being tortured and sexually abused. and the families there in tel aviv repeating and trying to maintain that pressure to try to get those hostages home. and there were messages of support for that objective from french president macron, there was the u.s. ambassador and others of course also hearing from freed hostages. and i think one of them summed it up i those the way many of these families are feeling, gabriella who was in captivity for 53 days after being kidnapped say i can't imagine how we can continue to exist and think that we will move on as a society and state without returning all the hostages as soon as possible. of course the problem is that there is no sign of another truce coming into effect.

rampage of october 7th are still being kept. they have had messages of support from french president emmanuel macron, from the u.s. ambassador, from senator chuck schumer among others. they have heard from hostages, they've heard from the loved ones of those who are still being held in the gaza strip. the main message is to keep public pressure, that the israeli government and the international community must do everything it can to bring them back, but also the concern that they have that the objectives of destroying hamas militarily may conflict with those of bringing those hostages home. that's what we were hearing from some of the families of hostages still being held in the gaza strip. >> the best answer is a political solution and not a military one. there's no price high enough. the israeli people know it and are unified with us and they know israel would never be the same if we give up on our loved
