Ocean Energy - Wave Hello to the 2022 Marine Energy Collegiate Competition Teams - Renewable Energy Magazine, at the heart of clean energy journalism

In its third iteration, the competition provides real-world experience and industry connections to help prepare next-generation innovators for future careers in the marine energy sector and the blue economy. Multidisciplinary teams of undergraduate and graduate students will unlock the power of the ocean, rivers, and tides to offer unique solutions that build resilient coastal communities and provide power at sea.
For this year’s competition, teams will not only create a market-research supported business plan and develop, design, and test technologies, but they’ll also have the opportunity to build and test their device to achieve energy production.

US examines offshore wind supply chain benefits

A US Department of Energy-backed initiative has started work on a roadmap to outline the benefits of the local supply chain in accelerating offshore wind development in the country.
The project is a partnership between the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the Business Network for Offshore Wind, the State of Maryland and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), as well as DoE.
NREL, the Business Network for Offshore Wind and also DNV will collaborate on the project.
The Network will gather data through its Supply Chain Connect tool, a database used by developers to search for suppliers and by vendors to introduce themselves to industry.

An emissions-systems cautionary tale for new truck-tech

Apr 15, 2021
Past SuperTruck concepts from Volvo, Navistar and Freightliner involved diesel powertrains, principally. The third funding opportunity from the DOE for the SuperTruck program prioritizes battery-electric, hydrogen and hydrogen fuel-cell power plants across truck size spectrums.
One of two experienced operators serving on a distinguished panel today summed up many owner-operators' thoughts about major technology advances after U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm announced a third round of Super Truck funding.
Joel Morrow, driver and specifications manager with small-mid-size fleet Ploger Transportation, stressed the importance of ensuring that the latest "technologies are ready for the real world."
Joining Morrow and Granholm on the panel were Clark Reed, driver with Nussbaum Transportation; two other federal officials; and North American Council for Freight Efficiency Executive Director MIke Roeth.
