Evil Within 3: 10 Things We DON'T WANT

The Evil Within is the underdog when it comes to action-horror franchises. The series stands in the long shadow of
Resident Evil and
Silent Hill, but its always cut a special places in my heart. The nightmarish visuals and disgusting monster designs are right up my alley. And while the developerrs, Tango Gameworks, aren’t currently haven’t announced an
Evil Within 3, I believe it’s only a matter of time before we get a third game.
With that in mind, let’s talk about what I absolutely DO NOT want in
Evil Within 3. Whether it’s repeating mistakes in the first two or chasing lousy horror game trends, these are the features and future design decisions I want Tango Gameworks to stay far, far away from. Not even Capcom, the gold standard, can get all their horror sequels right. Now strap yourself into the Animus and explore the depths of my twisted mind — here’s the top 10 things I don’t want in

The community shaping the future of accessibility in games.
Article

I was really moved this week to see how a small number of people have powered a profound change in games. I'm a bit embarrassed to say I often overlook accessibility in games, which isn't to say I don't benefit from it. And I assumed the range of accessibility options in modern games was simply improving because someone somewhere decided it should. But of course that's not what happened. Behind the celebrated and ground-breaking accessibility tools in a game like The Last of Us Part 2, for example, is the tireless work of a community campaigning for the opportunity to play and enjoy games too.

Two Big New Features Confirmed For Resident Evil Village
Spotted by Where’s Barry over on Twitter, recent footage released for the survival horror sequel confirms that a photo mode will be available, allowing players to take pictures during cutscenes and general gameplay. We fully expect the internet to be overrun by images of Lady Dimitrescu within minutes of launch next month, many of which will almost certainly be NSFW in nature. That is, of course, assuming Capcom has no restrictions in place to combat misuse, but such attempts are largely futile, as modders will always find a way.

Welcome to The Week in Gaming, the place where we pause each week to take a look at the video game news beats both big and small that you might be missing — while also taking a peek around the corner at what's ahead. Check in each Friday for news (and occasionally even views) on everything from sprawling RPGs to Metroidvania platformers to the latest in VR and free-to-play. We'll even throw in a good old-fashioned board game every now and then!
Though it's been out since November, the PlayStation 5 is still at the very start of its console life cycle. Sony is selling its next-gen beast as fast as it can make it, yet supply shortages from day one have meant there's still a legion of players out there — including several of

Resident Evil Village Map Shows Off Four Distinct Locales For You To Visit
Outside of Castle Dimitrescu, you'll have other spooky areas to slowly slink through in Resident Evil Village.
Resident Evil Village's in-game map has been revealed, showing off four distinct locales that you'll visit when exploring the game's new European-inspired setting. As with the previous game, this doesn't necessarily mean you will be exploring them all for an equal amount of time.
The map, revealed by IGN, shows that Castle Dimitrescu is just one of four areas that you'll be surviving through during the game's runtime. This is similar in style to Resident Evil 7, which had a large focus on the Baker household but expanded beyond that later in its story. The other locales aren't named, but do feature images depicting a windmill, reservoir, and factory.

PS5 Is an Amazing Fit for Horror, Its Tech Contributes Hugely to Immersion, Says RE Village Director
Apr 9, 2021 12:30 EDT
With Resident Evil Village now less than a month away, CAPCOM's game director Morimasa Sato was featured on the latest PlayStation Official Magazine (issue 187, May 2021) to discuss his experience with developing the game on Sony's PS5 console.
I feel like the possibilities of what I can express in a game have been expanded. Immersion is the most important aspect of a horror game, and I think that the PS5’s technology contributes hugely to creating an improved sense of immersion. Using the fast-loading SSD, we’ve been able to let players explore the village environment seamlessly while experiencing 3D audio that gives a sense of a multilayered environment. During combat scenes, they’ll feel the responsiveness of their weapons through the adaptive triggers.

Tall tales.
Updated on 8 April 2021
Capcom has dated its next Resident Evil showcase event for next Thursday, 15th April at 11pm UK time (that's 6pm Eastern, or 3pm Pacific).
The livestream is set to reveal more details on Capcom's plans for Resident Evil over the course of its 25th anniversary year.
It follows an earlier showcase event back in January which gave us Resident Evil Village's release date and a good look at the game, a glimpse at its free multiplayer component Re:Verse, and a simultaneous release of Village's PlayStation 5-exclusive demo.
Capcom has previously promised a second Village demo will be released, this time for all platforms: PC, PS5, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. This seems likely to land alongside the showcase next week.

Resident Evil Village to Get a New Trailer and Gameplay Footage in Upcoming Showcase
It's kind of crept up on us, but Resident Evil Village is now only a month away. Releasing on 7th May for PlayStation 5 and PS4, the latest main entry in the survival horror series is very nearly here. Still, we've not seen all that much of it, save for a giant woman that has the gaming hivemind swooning. Let's not get sidetracked, though — the point is, a new Resident Evil Showcase is on the way.
Next week, Capcom will be showing off "a new trailer and gameplay" for the hotly anticipated game, "along with a few other surprises". You can see glimpses of the new Village trailer in the above teaser, and Lady Dimitrescu is of course present and correct. Any other news or announcements will come as a bonus, so we're looking forward to watching. The Resi Showcase will take place on 15th April at 3pm PDT / 11pm BST.

PlayStation Leak Reveals Second Resident Evil Village Demo
As spotted by the folks over at MP1st, four new region-specific SKUs (one each, for Europe, Asia, Japan and North America) have recently been uploaded by Sony to the PlayStation Network back end, all of which make specific reference to a gameplay demo for the upcoming sequel. It’s worth noting, of course, that these additions have yet to go live on the service and remain unavailable to the public, but it’s a surefire sign, nonetheless, that Capcom is finally ready to give fans their first hands-on experience with Ethan Winters’ nightmare.

Confirming the news over on Twitter earlier today, the developer says it’ll have more details regarding the sequel’s campaign and multiplayer
RE: Verse experience to share on April 15th, with the show being hosted by Brittney Brombacher. As for what folks tuning in can expect to see specifically, those details are being kept under wraps, though you can bet that we’ll get to witness more segments of Ethan Winters’ nightmare take center stage. A further appearance by the internet sensation that is Lady Dimitrescu will assuredly be part of the demonstration, too, but we’re also hoping for a few surprises.

Reverted to type.
Updated on 8 April 2021
Capcom has pulled the RE:Verse open beta offline just seven hours after launch.
In a tweet, Capcom said issues with the matchmaking service sparked the decision to suspend the open beta until further notice.
"We will continue to investigate, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
The RE:Verse open beta went live at 7am UK time today, 8th April. The notice to pull it offline came at 2pm UK time.
It's unclear when exactly the open beta will return. This open beta period was due to come to an end at 7am UK time on 11th April, so hopefully it's back online before then.

There are rumors that a new Resident Evil Village demo will drop on PlayStation as well.
We're one week away from a new Resident Evil Village showcase. Capcom announced that the next is set to air on April 15 and will feature a look at some new gameplay along with a trailer. Judging by the teaser video that accompanied the announcement, we could be seeing a human processing plant along with more of Lady Dimitrescu. You'll find I have no complaints on the latter.

Seinfeld Horror Game (Trailer)
But was this a real game? Turns out YES, it is!
Seinfeld: The Horror Game was created by RareBird Games.
The premise is that you are Jerry’s nephew, Donathan and you get to explore Jerry and Kramer’s apartments, Monk’s Diner, and other places made – all of which seem to
appear to be….empty.
The gameplay sees you playing as a character named Donathan
“as he survives the streets after his newly adoptive father abandons him at about 3am in the Big Apple [and] finds himself trapped in an endless loop of nightmares as he fights to find a bed to sleep in.”
