George Floyd: Fear Minneapolis will burn again | World | News

It was sparked after a video emerged of police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Mr Floyd's neck for nine minutes as he repeatedly pleaded that he could not breathe on May 25.
The incident triggered violent protests in Minneapolis, many other towns and cities in the US and also in the UK.
City leaders had to call in the National Guard following nights of rioting and looting as around 1,500 businesses suffered $1billion in damages and a Minneapolis police station was abandoned to the mob.
With months to prepare, the city has vowed to maintain law and order while allowing for peaceful protests, adding officers had undergone "de-escalation training".

Minneapolis braces for Derek Chauvin's trial

Minneapolis spends more than $1M on barricades ahead of Derek Chauvin trial next week for murder of George Floyd as local businesses fear repeat of BLM rioting
Barbed wire and metal barricades have already been erected around the Hennepin County Courthouse where Chauvin's murder trial is set to start Monday with jury selection
City, state and federal leaders held their last security briefings Thursday just days before the trial kicks off
Dubbed 'Operation Safety Net', the multi-agency security plan includes closures of certain public buildings and streets, extra security from cops and National Guard troops and a public communication plan

Brisbane's Heeler Family Wows on Opening Night – 96five Family Radio

By Justin RouillonWednesday 23 Dec 2020
Main Image: The Heeler family wrap up opening night in style (Image: Darren Thomas).  Listen: Arthur Muhl chats to yours truly about the Bluey Stage Show experience.
It’s 5:45pm on a Tuesday night and I’ve managed to wrangle my six and four year olds (yep I’ve got the Heeler pair) into their seats at QPAC’s Playhouse for the opening night of the Bluey Stage Show.
To say they were excited about seeing their favourite talking dogs live on stage was a slight understatement!
In any other year this would be a normal opening night, but in 2020, the premiere of Bluey’s Big Play is an achievement that all Queenslanders can be proud of.  After the season’s cancellation during the shutdowns earlier this year, the Bluey Stage Show is now the first theatrical premiere in the world to take place with a 100% capacity audience.  It’s almost like a celebration that we all got through 2020 together!
