school here. it was a momentous day for those outside of plains, georgia. those residents here locally are a little more used to seeing president jimmy carter here on sundays at sunday school. he did get up there and speak for about an hour, his first time publicly addressing the congregation since saying he was diagnosed with cancer. he was incredibly at ease considering everything that he's gone through. at some points he was even joking with the crowd, spry 90 years old. he looked a lot better than even some average 90-year-olds. he did have some serious undertones to his speech earlier today here at the church. he briefly addressed his cancer diagnosis. >> i intend to keep on teaching here at maranatha as long as i'm able. i'm going to cut back a good bit. i work at the carter centering, rose and i have full time despite our advanced age. i think a lot of people are waiting for me to step down to give them a new chance so this

diagnosed with cancer. he asked the crowd where they were visiting from, a crowd here, congregation on average usually about 40 people. today that crowd swelled to well over 400 people. he also talked about despite his cancer diagnosis he plans to stay committed to his very busy schedule. >> found i had cancer, so they removed part of my liver, i think they got all the cancer from my liver, but then we had another mri and showed up i have four places in my brain, and so this thursday they treated that with radiation, and i'm taking some additional medicine to stimulate my autoimmune system to fight the cancer. i plan on teaching here as long as i'm able. and i'm going to cut back a good bit. just gives me a good excuse to finally do it. i work at the corner cinema, we've been working, rose and i have been, full-time, despite our advanced age and i think a lot of people are waiting for me to kind of step down to give them a new chance, so this will be a good opportunity for that.
