Truck crash sends car off Route 78 ramp in Newark

The car had been traveling on a ramp from Routes 1&9.
Using rope and other heavier equipment, firefighters took about an hour to free the man trapped inside his white car.
The crash left the truck laying on its side on the ramp, according to Newark police.
The driver of the car suffered severe head trauma with multiple cuts to his body and was transported to University Hospital, according to Newark police, who did not disclose the condition of the truck driver.

Had it not been for their tireless efforts to extricate the victim, this incident could have resulted in a tragedy," Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said in a written statement. Several good Samaritans helped a driver after his ice cream truck went down a cliff near the Hudson River and crashed Thursday in Bergen County, authorities said.
The ice cream truck, Lexylicious from Toms River, was headed north on Henry Hudson Drive, toward Ross Dock, in the Fort Lee-section of the Palisades Interstate Park when the driver lost control, according to Sgt. First Class Raymond Walter, of the Palisades Interstate Parkway police.

FORT LEE — An ice cream truck rolled 20 feet down a cliff near the George Washington Bridge Thursday afternoon, according to the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police.
The driver of the truck owned by Lexylicious Ice Cream lost control of the truck, which ended up on its left side after it went through a group of trees, according to police.
Franco Maicas, 22, from Toms River, was hospitalized with head and neck pain.
Three passersby ran down the embankment to help free the driver, according to police, who said Maicas was out of his truck by the time first responders arrived.

Ice Cream Truck Plummets Off New Jersey Cliff Into Ravine

Three Good Samaritans jumped into action, breaking one of the truck's windows in order to pull the driver, a 22-year-old man from Toms River, to safety. He only had some head and neck pain, according to police, and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was treated for the minor injuries.
The owner of Lexylicious Ice Cream, Alexa Hesse, said that the driver may have hit a rock on the road, triggering the accident.
"I haven't been able to see the truck yet. I'm under the impression from what I've accumulated that he hit a rock and it slipped, and the truck went off the edge," Hesse said. "Thank God he's OK."
