If you listen to social media chatter, you may have heard the rumor that Miami is going to replace San Francisco as America’s tech hub. Bay Area residents are (and may already have been) flocking there in droves, seeking the absence of income tax, better weather and a lower cost of living.
While it's largely conjecture, new data from Initialized Capital, a San Francisco venture capital firm, shows that in a survey of its portfolio companies, if most of them were founding a company today, it wouldn’t be in San Francisco. Of the more than 90 companies that typically respond to this survey each year, 42.1% said a distributed workforce would be the most beneficial way to start it in the interest of the company’s long-term success.

Critics Fear Insiders Cashing in on SFPUC 'Benefits' Program – NBC Bay Area

NBC Universal, Inc.
San Francisco-based businessman and entrepreneur Dwayne Jones has made quite a living over the last decade, consulting on a unique city program he himself helped create.
Records show that the former mayor’s office official and his consulting firm, RDJ Enterprises, netted at least $7 million in consulting contracts after partnering with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission in 2011 to craft the agency’s Community Benefits program, designed to give back to the communities that are home to SFPUC projects.
A key part of the Community Benefits program is its Social Impact Partnership program, which gives contractors and consultants on public projects extra credit for donating time and money to schools and non-profits. As bidders, firms can get up to a five percent boost in their overall score, based on how they pledge to volunteer and make donations over the life of the contact.

San Francisco's 200 parks have never meant more to the city [SFGate, San Francisco]

San Francisco’s 200 parks have never meant more to the city [SFGate, San Francisco]
Dec. 21—In 2017 then San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee proudly announced, after the opening of Hilltop Park in the Bayview, that San Francisco is the first city in the nation to have every resident live within a 10-minute walk of a park or open space.
“In San Francisco, we want everyone to enjoy the prosperity of this city, which is why it is particularly meaningful that we have a local parks system that is accessible and enjoyable for all of our residents,” Lee said.
Parks have always played an important part in our city’s history, from the day after the earthquake in 1906 when Golden Gate Park became a site of refuge for 20,000 unhoused San Franciscans, to Jimi Hendrix leading the cultural revolution that changed the world in the Summer of Love on the Panhandle.
