When Julissa Gutierrez was appointed New York’s chief diversity officer last summer, she was tasked with registering more MWBEs and reaching the state’s ambitious 30% MWBE contract utilization goal – which New York nearly did, with the state announcing in December that 29.51% of its contracts had been awarded to firms owned by women or minorities in the 2019-2020 fiscal year. Some Wilmington musicians finding more gigs during COVID in South Carolina

After the pandemic shut down Wilmington bars and restaurants last March, longtime local musician Jared Cline found himself in a tight spot.
Cline, an adept guitarist and a strong rock/soul singer and songwriter, makes his living playing gigs, many of them solo or duo performances, at spots downtown, the beaches and elsewhere. But after logging his final pre-pandemic gig in Wilmington on March 6 of last year, his next in-person performance wasn't in the Port City, but rather at Murrells Inlet in South Carolina on May 22. (He wouldn't play another gig in Wilmington until mid-June of 2020.)
Since then, he said, he's been playing in South Carolina three to six nights a week, everywhere from Myrtle Beach to Pawleys Island.

A few members of Strange Brew play mostly at South Carolina bars since they can still serve drinks until 11 p.m.

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) - When it comes to COVID-19 restrictions on bars and restaurants, it’s like night and day between North Carolina and its neighbor to the south.
Under Governor Roy Cooper’s executive order, bars and restaurants in North Carolina must stop serving alcohol at 9 p.m. while in South Carolina, they can serve drinks until 11 p.m. Members of the local band “Strange Brew” say it was an easy decision to start booking gigs in the Palmetto State.
