it comes to presidential politics. on trump s first day in office he started raising money for his reelection campaign, and some of that donor money poured right into his businesses. in 2018, you would say today said washington hotel taken $351,000 during his first year in office. about 60% of that came from the republican national committee to host events at the hotel. trump also has a history of using charitable donations for his own benefit. in 2019 new york times, excuse, me new york judge find trump $2 million after the trump foundation misused donations meant 4chan charity. the npr reported at the time, quote, the case is tied to a televised fund-raiser for veterans held by trump in iowa when he was running for president. trump said the funds raised would beach distributed to charities, but according to two court documents, the trump foundation improperly use nearly $3 million it received from that fund-raiser and now a year and a half after trump s 2020 election ....
good evening, i m anderson cooper along with my colleague, jake tapper. tonight, we are going inside one of the most riveting days of testimony in the four days of hearings so far. the fourth hearing by the january 6th committee, there s just no other way to describe what we saw today. a series of republican state officials putting country ahead of party, testifying to the intense pressure they were under by the former president and his allies to help overturn the 2020 election. this is also a deeply emotional day as well for many of these witnesses, some having to collect themselves as they spoke about the toll their decisions have taken on themselves as well as on their families, having to withstand the demonstrations and threats of violence of those inspired by the former president who are often quite literally outside their doors. some of the most personal and damning testimony heard today came from arizona s republican speaker of the house. rusty bowers is his ....
refused to talk about his role when loftily subpoenaed, he awaits sentencing. cnn s katelyn polantz was in the courtroom and joins us now. walk us through what happened in court today and how bannon reacted when the verdict was read? well, john, as steve bannon moved around the courthouse today, on the grounds in the courtroom, he appeared to be very much himself. he was smiling throughout the day, right before the verdict came down, when the jury came back in, he was waiting, on his phone, what appeared to be looking at social media, thanking his lawyers, patting them on the back. but then when the jury came in to deliver their verdict, they came in about two and a half hours after they started. when they came in, steve bannon didn t show a lot of emotion. he smirked a little bit. he nodded, as the judge thanked the jury. but ultimately, he wasn t really that reactive in court. and the jury had bought what the prosecution was arguing. that this was like a parking tic ....
