  Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel of the Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Australia has returned to the church and resumed preaching two weeks after a knife attack during a live stream. The bishop who returned to church with a white eye patch delivered a fiery sermon in support of freedom of speech and freedom of religion. In a video posted by Alex Barnicoat (@mrbarnicoat) on X, the cleric said, “I’m proud to be an Australian, and wherever I go, whenever I travel, across the globe, when I come back here, this is home.”

Court Sentences Two Nigerian Drug Kingpins To Life In Prison Over Cocaine Trafficking

      The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced two drug kingpins, Uwaezuoke Ikenna Christian and Agbo Chidike Prince to life imprisonment for cocaine trafficking including exporting cocaine across continents. Christian, 43 and Prince, 42 were arrested and arraigned before the court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

      A human rights activist, Francis Nwapa, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to stop Point of Sale operators (POS) from buying naira from financial institutions and individuals and reselling to Nigerians with high charges. Nwapa also asked the anti-graft agency to arrest people in different financial institutions across the country making Nigerians buy naira in their own country.

      The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that its personnel arrested a couple in Edo State for a drug-related crime. The agency which made this known in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said that its operatives also arrested a woman who produces drug-laced cakes in Bayelsa State and intercepted Italy-bound illicit drug consignment in Lagos State.

Over 6,000 Inmates Escaped From Nigerian Prisons in Five Years –Report

  Between October 28, 2019 and April 25, 2024, fewer than 6,356 inmates escaped from Nigerian Correctional Service Centres in a series of successful jailbreaks. This amounts to 13 in number, a report by WikkiTimes said. Recently, Nigeria has experienced several jailbreaks, posing a threat to public safety. These incidents have raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of security measures within the country’s prison system and also highlighted the need for reforms.
