Lubbock school districts increase teachers pay in adopted budgets

School districts in Lubbock are including pay increases for teachers in their adopted budgets.
In June, the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees approved the Fiscal Year 2021-22 budget that includes a 1% pay increase for all employees. The starting salary for a teacher at LISD will increase from $45,000 to $46,000 next school year.
"We're satisfying some needs that are important to so many of us," Zach Brady, president of the board, said about the budget before it was approved. "Certainly we'd like to be able to do more than the 1% on the salary side, but quite frankly, I wasn't sure there was going to be room for that. So I really appreciate the work that (Shay Jennings, the director of finance and budget) and her team have done."
