It s torturous. it really is. mike valerio, thank you very much. we ll talk further about this whole experience for hawaiians there and the impact it s making, how the people of hawaii are processing this horrific tragedy. unimaginable catastrophe. naka nathaniel is joining me live from honolulu. he s an opinion writer for honolulu s civil beat. i m so glad you can be with us, sadly after these horrible circumstances. sadly, in susan s voice, if you weren t able to see her face on a monitor there, i imagine you can relate and all your fellow hawaiians can relate to the devastation of experiencing this and then contrast that with people who are only seeing hawaii as a beautiful destination, a vacation

Lives here in maui. again, going back to what we just heard, when people are on their missions to try to deliver supplies, to try to figure out how to go on, every now and then you just hear the realization that things will never be the same. what we re looking at right here, this is one of the officers we ve become friends with over the past hour, she s just making sure these are lahaina residents, not people who are trying to unfortunately a lot, take advantage of the situation. fred, we re going to be here for the rest of the afternoon i should say it s still morning here. check on people, i think that is what people need to understand who are so far away from where we are right now, this is just beginning, fred. you can see it in susan s face. you could hear it in her voice. it s painstaking. it s heartbreaking.

Met a woman named susan. and she is going home, very emotional about that. but she wanted everybody watching, our viewers around the world, to know that maui, her home, this island here, jessica, is not just a vacation spot but it is the soul and identity of thousands of people who live here. and in this vulnerable moment, she spoke quite movingly about the need for respect. listen to what she told us. when i drove through on friday, i had no clue what i was going through. i got so everything is gone, i worked at the chart house in 1991. it s flat to the ground. there s houses i used to live in that i don t even know where they were. i lost friends in there. they were going back to get their animals. and she died. so i mean, you know, it s really sad because people come over here, you know, i heard there was a snorkeling boat looking at lahaina town. give them respect. it s so bad.

Earlier today, we spoke with a woman named susan. she was telling us what it is like to go into the disaster zone, come out, and some unfortunate things that she is seeing once she s inside. listen to what she told us. we did not know anything that was going on in lahaina. we had no running water, no electricity, no nothing. we got stuck there, and i had no idea what was going on just two miles down the road. we had no information. my cousin is over there right now, taking care of everything. but we don t have any like good running water or anything. so, yeah, and i went back to get two generators and 25 gallons of gas to come back over. i waited in line for 4 1/2 hours thinking that i could get through and a fight started when i was there. reporter: can you believe that, a fight started. she s reporting looting.

And i think that is something that is gonna be on full display when district attorney willis proceeds with her grand jury investigations next week. and we know that she is spinning a number of people close to trump as well. some of his former allies, including the former lieutenant governor of georgia, as well as some of those fake electors who managed to flip on each other and receive some type of immunity from the district attorney s office. and so i think trump is lashing out because he feels the wall closing in. and i think that that is definitely going to turn off some independent voters and continue to democratic voters against him. susan, turning now to another story we are following, president biden s son, under, is now the subject of a special counsel investigation. attorney general merrick garland announced friday that david weiss, the current u.s. attorney for delaware was will serve as a special counsel in the ongoing biden probe. wise who was appointed by trump is looking into allegations
